LUBBOCK, Texas (February 3, 2019) – Lubbock Christian University split a doubleheader Sunday on the final day of action at the TAJ Hospitality College Softball Kickoff at PlainsCapital Park, as they defeated Western New Mexico University 11-0 before falling to MSU Texas (Midwestern State) 4-2. The loss to MSU Texas was LCU's first loss of the season and ended a four-game win streak to open the season.

Game 1 – Western New Mexico
LCU Highlights:
- LCU produced at least 10 runs for a fourth consecutive game.
- Annika Schwartzenberg went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI.
- Megan Darling went 2-for-2 with an RBI.
- Amber Carlton collected her first win in the circle, as she went the complete game and recorded her second career complete game shutout.
Turning Point:
The Lady Chaps produced a four-run first inning, with all four runs scored with two outs.to help LCU jump out to a 4-0 advantage.
How it Happened:
- In the bottom of the first inning, Alexis Reed started the scoring with a two-out single. Schwartzenberg followed with a two-run single before the scoring was capped in the inning with a single by Megan Darling.
- The remaining seven runs were scored in the third inning. Alexis Riggs opened the seven-run inning with an RBI-single. With the bases loaded, Alivia Villarreal hit a single to score a pair and ended up driving an unearned run as well due to an error on the play. Schwartzenberg closed the scoring with a double.
- Carlton danced with a no-hitter for 3.1 innings, retiring the first 10 batters faced in order. She ended up allowing three hits in 5.0 innings and striking out one batter.
Inside the Numbers:
- The Lady Chaps scored at least 10 runs in a fourth consecutive game. It marks the second consecutive season LCU had a string of four straight games with at least 10 runs and it marked their first season ever to open the season with four straight games with at least 10 runs.
- LCU was 7-for-14 with runners in scoring position, while WNMU was 1-for-6 in the same situation. Schwartzenberg and Darling were each 2-for-2 in the situation.
- For the first time this season, LCU's defense was error free.
Game 2 – Midwestern State

Turning Point:
Midwestern State opened the third inning with their first four batters reaching base safely and it led to a two-run inning for the Mustangs.
How it Happened:
- Ashley Turner, Daylan Inkman, Tucker Caraway each singled and Kelsey Eropkin walked to help get the Mustangs first four batters aboard in the third inning. LCU was able to limit the damage to two runs, as the Mustangs took a 2-0 lead.
- Caycee Griffin led off the fourth inning with a double and extended the MSU Texas lead to 3-0 by scoring on a single from Turner.
- Caraway was hit by a pitch in the fifth inning and advanced to third base on a wild pitch. She scored on a groundout to give the Mustangs a 4-0 advantage.
- LCU's only offense came in the fifth inning. Wysocki had her first extra-base hit of the season, a double, which scored Breanna Anderson and Alexa Riggs.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco made her first start in the circle for LCU and recorded eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
- LCU had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Lady Chaps were 2-for-11 with runners on base.
- MSU Texas was 5-of-7 getting the leadoff batter aboard. Griffin was 2-for-2 reaching base in a leadoff at-bat. The Mustangs were 2-for-13 in at-bats with runners in scoring position.
