LUBBOCK, Texas (March 16, 2019) – Lubbock Christian University won its third straight series on Saturday afternoon, beating Texas A&M-International 11-1 in the finale for a 3-1 series win.
The series was LCU's last in non-conference play for the season, as they begin league play in the Heartland Conference next weekend. The Chaps are almost exactly halfway through the season, having played 24 games, and are 16-8 in that time. They will play three more nonconference games the rest of the season, but all are scheduled as midweek contests.
TAMIU got on the board first in the game, scoring on a wild pitch that gave them a brief 1-0 lead. Catcher
Andrew Pratt got the run back for the Chaps, blasting his seventh home run of the season. It was not the only LCU home run in the inning, as
James Hardberger followed with a two-run shot to give the Chaps the lead. The home runs were the 30
th and 31
st of the season for Lubbock Christian, which leads the Heartland Conference and is 13 more than the next closest team, St. Mary's.
The third inning is where the Chaps broke the game open, hitting four straight singles after the Dustdevils got the first out. Pratt drove in another run, giving him his team-leading ninth multi-RBI game of the year, and RBIs were recorded by
Keaton Greenwalt,
Will Clark and
James Hardberger.
LCU added another run in the eighth after a double by Greenwalt and three walks as starting pitcher
Logan McCrummen, who had his best outing of the season. McCrummen, making just his third start of the year, took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, when a single to center field broke it up. He walked allowed three other baserunners via walks, but even one of those was quickly erased with a pickoff. His seven innings pitched were a season high and his four strikeouts matched a season high as well.
McCrummen never had to be relieved, as the Chaps added another three runs to enact the run rule in the seventh inning, Greenwalt led off the inning with a triple, leaving him just a home run shy of the cycle for the game.
Andres Negron then singled up the middle and Clark recorded a triple of his own. A sacrifice fly from
Eddy Vasquez brought home Clark and ended the game and the series.
