Turning Point:
LCU, trailing 2-1 in the fourth inning, received a two-run home run by
Breanna Anderson with two-outs, and the pitch she hit out was on a 3-2-payoff-pitch.
How it Happened:
- Newman had four stolen bases in the game and two came in the first inning. Lauren Kuhrt stole second and third base to set up scoring on a single by Lacey Colvin for a 1-0 lead.
- Alexa Riggs tied the game in the third inning, scoring on a ground out hit into by Lindzi Clemmer for the RBI.
- Katherine Stanford, who was 2-for-2 in the game, stole two bases in the third inning and scored on a ground out to regain the Newman lead (2-1).
- Newman recorded two quick outs in the top of the fourth inning, but then Morgan Dufour drew a walk and Breanna Anderson followed blasting a 3-2 pitch over the centerfield fence for a two-run home run, giving LCU their first lead of the game at 3-2. Riggs followed with a single to centerfield and Wysocki drove her in with a triple to cap a three-run fourth inning and LCU led 4-2.
- LCU added an insurance run in the fifth inning, with Alexis Reed grounding out to score K'leigh Arredondo.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco's 14 strikeouts tied for the eighth-most in Heartland Conference history. It was the most strikeouts by a LCU pitcher since Sarah Mendez struck out 16 batters on Mar. 16, 2012 (seven years to the day) against Waldorf.
- Breanna Anderson's first collegiate home run gives LCU eight different players with at least one home run this season.
- Savannah Wysocki's triple tied her for the national lead in the category, as she has seven on the season. The single-season Hearltand Conference record is eight (Chelsea Usher of Okalhoma Panhandle State in 2012). LCU's single-season record is 11 held by Brittany Kent from the 2012 season.
- For a second consecutive game this season, LCU was error-free, which is the first time this season they have been error free in consecutive games.
- LCU hit into 11 groundouts Saturday.
- Wysocki led LCU in the five-game season series with the Jets, as she was .550 in the series with 11 hits in 20 at-bats.
