Say it Ain't So!... Lady Chaps Split Again

Lady Chaps and St. Edward's Split a Doubleheader for the Second Time This Season

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 29, 2019) – Lubbock Christian University split their sixth Heartland Conference doubleheader of the season and second straight involving St. Edward's, as LCU won the opening 8-3 before falling 9-5 in the second game at PlainsCapital Park.

Game 1 vs. SEU
 
LCU Highlights:  
Turning Point:
SEU trailing 5-0 rallied with a pair of runs in the sixth inning, but LCU prevented any further damage recording two of the outs in the top of the sixth inning getting runners retired on the bases. LCU then answered with a three-run bottom of the sixth inning.
 
How it Happened:
  • LCU opened the scoring with a three-run first inning. Eight batters went to the plate, with six coming up with two outs, as K'leigh Arredondo's two-out double with no one base was the first of four hits with two outs. Megan Darling, Alivia Villarreal and Anika Schwartzenberg each had RBI-singles.
  • LCU added to the 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning with a RBI-double hit by Villarreal.
  • An infield error leads to an RBI for Savannah Wysocki to give LCU a 5-0 lead.
  • Kylie Mica cut the SEU deficit to 5-3 with a two-run single. She was thrown out trying to extend it to a double for the third out in the top of the sixth inning.
  • Arredondo and Anderson each had RBI-singles to aid in a three-run bottom of the sixth inning..
 
 Inside the Numbers:.
  • LCU scored three runs in the first inning. It is the 19th game in which LCU has scored in the first inning. They are 16-3 in those contests.
  • Alexa Riggs had seven assists at shortstop.
  • LCU was 7-for-11 (.636) in two-out at-bats leading to five two-out RBI.

LCU Highlights:  
Turning Point:
The Hilltoppers had four two-out RBI produced in the seven-run third inning.
 
How it Happened:
  • SEU opened the game on an 8-0 run, with a seven-run third inning. The Hiltoppers had seven hits in the third inning, with Kathryn Connelly highlighting the inning with a two-run single.
  • Savannah Wysocki and KK Lopez-Liu each hit a double in the third inning, with Lopez-Liu's double driving in two runs and cut the deficit to 8-3.
  • The Hilltoppers had a run score in the sixth inning for an insurance run, extending the lead to 9-3.
  • LCU closed the game with a pair of runs. Clemmer doubled in a run and Lopez Liu hit a sacrifice-fly RBI for a run. LCU had the tying run on-deck when the game ended.
 
 Inside the Numbers:
  • LCU was 0-for-5 in two-out at-bats and stranded eight runners.
  • The Lady Chaps were 5-for-7 getting the leadoff batter aboard, but they were 4-for-21 (.190) with runners on base.
  • The 16 hits was the third-most allowed this season by LCU. It ended a sequence of nine consecutive games in which LCU held their opponents to under 10 hits.
