Turning Point:
LCU had the bases loaded with one out in the fifth inning and trailing 10-9, but was unable to tie the game. WTAMU went on to score eight unanswered runs.
How it Happened:
- LCU opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with K'leigh Arredondo following an Alivia Villarreal RBI with an infield single to give the Lady Chaps a 2-0 lead.
- Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the second inning, WTAMU exploded for nine runs off seven hits, as they sent 14 batters to the plate. Salzman hit a grand slam and Miranda Grotenhuis welcomed Jordan Wehr into the circle (Wehr's first batter faced in relief) with a two-run home run.
- The Lady Chaps responded with a five-run top-of-the-third inning. The first three runs were unconventional, as an error was followed by Logan Grado walking with the bases loaded and Wysocki hit by the pitch with the bases loaded. Clemmer capped the scoring for LCU in the inning with a two-run RBI base hit with two outs, which cut LCU's deficit to 9-7.
- WTAMU built the lead to 10-7 after getting a run across in the third inning off a wild pitch.
- Schwartzenberg hit her first home run of the season in the fourth inning. The Amarillo, Texas native hit a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 10-9. LCU had their opportunities to regain the lead in the fifth inning. Megan Darling hit a double and Clemmer followed with a single to put runners on the corners and no outs. The tying run (Darling) remained at third base, as LCU's next four batters were unsuccessful in advancing Darling home.
- Shayne Starkey hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning for WTAMU and it was the first of six consecutive hits by the Lady Buffs (three for extra bases), leading to a five-run inning. They ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning with Salzman following a pair of walks with a three-run home run for the walk-off win.
Inside the Numbers:
- LCU allowed a program single-game record 18 earned runs, marking the second time this season they have allowed at least 15 earned runs in a game this season (the 15 earned runs from Feb. 2 was the prior record).
- The Lady Chaps entered the game with a 25-3 hit advantage in bases-loaded at-bats. Tuesday, LCU was 1-for-6 in bases-loaded at-bats and WTAMU was 3-for-4.
- Lindzi Clemmer extended her season total of two-out-RBI to 12 on the season with her two in the contest.
- Annika Schwartzenberg's home run was her third career home run and the first of the season. The homer gives LCU seven different players with at least one home run on the season.
- The loss placed LCU with an all-time record of 82-63 against ranked competition and 0-1 on the season.
