LUBBOCK, Texas (March 8, 2019) – For a third consecutive Heartland Conference doubleheader, Lubbock Christian University split with their opponent. Friday, LCU won the opening game 3-2 before falling in the second game to St. Mary's 6-4 at PlainsCapital Park.

Game 1 vs. StMU
LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Jordan Wehr stepping into the circle was the remedy LCU needed to stop a sequence of three consecutive hits in the top of the seventh inning, which had the tying run in scoring position. Wehr was able to retire the two batters she faced to escape with the save and the LCU win.
How it Happened:
- Lenzi Clemmer opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning.
- An error in the third inning allowed the Lady Chaps to extend the lead to 3-0 in the second inning with Christiana Saenz scoring.
- Three consecutive hits led to a pair of runs scoring in the top of the seventh inning, which led to Franco's start in the circle coming to an end for Jordan Wehr, who was able to garner the save.
Inside the Numbers:
- Only three different Lady Chaps were able to get at least one hit in the game. Clemmer had three of LCU's five hits in the game, as StMU starting pitcher Staci Johns (8-6) allowed three runs (two earned) off five hits in 6.0 innings.
- With LCU scoring two runs in the first inning and claiming a win, LCU improves to 10-3 this season when scoring in the first inning.
- Taylor Franco's line included two runs off 11 hits in 6.1 innings. She struck out five batters (no walks), as she improved to 5-3.
- Abigale Carney was 3-for-4 in the loss for StMU.
- LCU was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position (1-for-11 with runners on base) and they were 0-for-7 in two-out at-bats.
Game 2 vs. StMU
LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Back-to-back pinch-hit base hits with two outs in the fourth inning allowed LCU to score three runs to cut the deficit to 5-3.
How it Happened:
- Taylor Germain led off the second inning with a double for the Rattlers. She scored on an ensuing single by Krystal Salinas and StMU ended up with a pair of runs in the inning.
- A dropped fly ball led to a trio of Rattler runs in the fourth inning, which proved them with a 5-0 lead.
- With two outs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, Logan Grado singled in a run and Alexis Reed followed with a pinch-hit double to score a pair of runners.
- LCU cut the deficit to 5-4 in the fifth inning. Annika Schwartzenberg drove in a run with two outs in the inning. The Lady Chaps were unable to get the tying run across.
Inside the Numbers:
- Arredondo was able to extend her streak of reaching base safely to 18 games (all games this season).
- All four LCU runs were scored in two-out at-bats. They were 4-for-10 in two-out at-bats.
- LCU was 1-for-7 in getting the leadoff batter aboard, while StMU was 4-for-7. The Rattlers improved to 7-for-14 (.500) on the day in the category.
- The Lady Chaps were 3-for-11 in at-bats with runners in scoring position, to push their mark to 3-for-18 (.167) in the series.
