An Unearned Win Decides Weekend Series at OC

LCU Allows Three Unearned Runs in Loss to OC

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (April 6, 2019) – Lubbock Christian University fell 3-2 in their final game of a weekend three-game set at Oklahoma Christian Saturday at Tom Heath Field.

LCU Highlights:  
Turning Point:
LCU had the bases loaded with two outs in the fifth inning trailing 3-2, as OC re-entered starting pitcher Kali Crandall, who was able to retire the final seven batters in order .
 
How it Happened:
  • A two-out single by Kaylie Upton led to an RBI and and an unearned run scoring to give OC a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
  • OC added to the lead with a pair of unearned runs in the second inning, which the Lady Eagles highlighted with a RBI-single from Sydney Smith for a 3-0 lead.
  • K'leigh Arredondo led off the fourth inning with a double and eventually scored on a fielder's choice hit into by Megan Darling to place LCU with their first run.
  • LCU would end the fourth inning with the bases loaded and they also left he bases loaded in the fifth inning, but not before Savannah Wysocki scored on a wild pitch.
 
 Inside the Numbers:
  • The loss places LCU with a 6-3 record in games decided by a run. Their last two losses have been by a run margin.
  • LCU fell to 5-5 when the opposition scores in the first inning (5-7 when the opponent scores first).
  • LCU was 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and OC was 2-for-10.
  • Amber Carlton threw 49 pitches to 20 batters faced for an average of 2.45 pitches per batter faced.
  • OC was held to five hits, with three by Upton, who was 3-for-3 for OC.
  • For the second time this season (each have happened within the previous five games), LCU allowed at least one run but did not allow an earned run in the game.
