COMMERCE, Texas (May 8, 2019) – The Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) announced their All-South Central Region Teams Wednesday and Lubbock Christian University's
Alivia Villarreal was LCU's only selection, claiming a spot as Second Team Utility.
Villarreal was the Heartland Conference Newcomer of the Year and First Team selection. The utility fielder from New Braunfels, Texas appeared in all 52 games this season and hit .360 (sixth in the Heartland Conference) with five home runs and a team-leading 44 RBI (second in the conference) for the team that leads the conference in RBI. She ranked fifth in the Heartland Conference in on-base percentage (.461) and third in RBI per game (.86), while also ranking eighth in walks (24). Villarreal, a junior, led LCU with eight bases-loaded hits this season and is hit .615 in the category.
The Heartland Conference All-Tournament selection was the third LCU member to ever claim Newcomer of the Year honors and the first since
Courtney Medina in 2017. The honor is the first of her career. Villarreal completed her first season with LCU after completing a junior college career at Blinn College.
