HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chaps recorded some early shots in the ninth minute, but it was the Crimson Storm who put one on frame first, forcing a save from LCU goalkeeper Braxton Thorne in the 11th minute
- Tariq Bakkali had LCU's first scoring chance in the 19th minute, hitting a shot low at the goal, but having it saved
- Thorne made two more saves before the end of the half, keeping SNU off the board as the two teams went into the break scoreless
- In the 52nd minute, the tie was broken as a Southern Nazarene player was fouled in the box and earned a penalty kick, which Eric Romero converted
- LCU got the goal back on a PK of their own in the 82nd minute. Fernando Flores took the penalty shot and was successful
- Flores followed up with the game-winner in the 89th minute, scoring unassisted to put the Chaps on top
LCU HIGHLIGHTS
- One of LCU's 2018 All-Region selections, Richie Vaca-Cordova, saw his first game action of the season after sitting out the first two games of the year with a minor injury
- Goalkeeper Braxton Thorne made four saves and now has 93 for his career, inching closer to the triple-digit mark
- Flores's two-goal game was the second straight by a Chap after Tariq Bakkali scored two in last Sunday's win over Colorado Christian
- Three Chaps took multiple shots in the game, including Flores, Bakkali and Abdou Joof
CHAP NOTES
- Thursday's win featured LCU's first penalty kick allowed and taken of the season. It was the first Chap penalty kick goal since October 20, 2018 against St. Mary's, which Flores also converted
- Flores now has two of the three Chaparral game-winning goals
- SNU took five corner kicks to just one for LCU, making Thursday the first time this season that an opponent earned more corners than the Chaps
- Lubbock Christian's 3-0 record matches their best start since 2015. LCU has never won four straight games to begin a season
