CHAPARRAL HEADERS
  • LCU is looking to win it second straight game to start the 2019 season after defeating UCCS 1-0 on Friday afternoon
  • Fernando Flores scored the lone goal in Friday's win. It was the fourth of his career (in 20 games) and his second game-winner ever
  • Sunday will be the last chance to see the Chaps play at home for almost the rest of the month. Their next home date after Sunday will be against UT Permian Basin on September 26
 
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
  • Chap goalkeeper Braxton Thorne made three saves in the season-opener on Friday is now closing in on the century mark for his career with 88 through 20 games
  • Three field players – Niklas Neumann, Ivan Muanze-Bengono and Jonathan Woods – played the full 90 minutes in the season-opener
  • The shots on goal leader in game one was Tariq Bakkali, who had two in just 49 minutes on the field
  • Lubbock Christian's back line allowed just three shots on goal in the first game, their fewest allowed since they held DBU to 0 on September 20, 2018
 
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
- Fellow Lone Star Conference member UT Permian Basin beat Colorado Christian 2-1 on Thursday in Midland
- Colorado Christian had just one win with 15 losses and one tie during the 2018 season, finishing dead last in the RMAC
- The Cougars were shut out eight time during the 2018 season, and their lone win was a 1-0 victory against Metro State (Denver) on September 13
- Brad Camp was named the head coach of the program in December 2018 after serving as an assistant coach at East Tennessee State the two previous years
- Dohnovyn Jackson was the only Cougar player to score multiple goals last season
 
THE SERIES WITH CCU
These two teams have met twice, both times on Colorado Christian's home field in Lakewood. Both times, however, LCU has come away with a win. The Chaps were 5-1 winners in the first contest, which featured a hat trick by Mbongeni Ndlovu. Last year's matchup saw four different Chaps score, including a two-goal game from Cade Von Heimburg.
