Game 1 - LCU vs. RSU

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
RSU turned a two-run deficit into a three-run lead in the fifth inning with five runs, including a trio off the bat of Allie McFetridge on a home run.

How it Happened:
  • LCU entered the game with six wild pitches on the season. They threw four in the game and one in the third inning led to RSU striking first for a 1-0 lead. Elexis Watson extended the lead to 2-0 with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.
  • The Lady Chaps produced three home runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and all three were solo shots. Following Angela Donaldson's blast to centerfield, Athena Muniz and Addi Lewis each went yard in back-to-back shots (three home runs in four at-bat stretch) to give LCU a 3-2 lead.
  • Three Hillcats reached on walks, setting up a run scoring on a wild pitch and Allie McFetridge following with a three-run home run as part of a five-run fifth inning.

Inside the Numbers:
  • Taylor Franco, who suffered her first loss (5-1), entered the game with 25 strikeouts and one walk in 24 innings on the season. Friday, she went 5.1 innings and struck out six batters and issued three walks. She allowed four earned runs off three hits.
  • The Lady Chaps were meeting the Hillcats for the first time as opponents not in the same conference. It was the 43rd all-time meeting and LCU is 33-10 all-time against the Hillcats.
  • The two teams combined to go 1-for-14 in leadoff at-bats (each team was 1-for-7).
  • Neither team had success with runners in scoring position, as they combined to go 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position. RSU was 1-for-5 in the scenario, with McFetridge's three-run homer serving as the only hit of the game with runners in scoring position.
  • RSU hit into 10 groundouts and one fly-out. Franco's 10 outs recorded on balls put into play were groundouts.
  • Home runs for Muniz and Lewis marked their first homers as members of the Lady Chaps.

Game 2 - LCU vs. CSC

LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Clarissa Martinez hit a bases-loaded single to centerfield, which was misplayed by centerfielder Ellie Owens and all three baserunners scored. It was part of a five-run sixth inning for LCU.

How it Happened:
  • LCU opened the scoring with a two-run first inning. Wysocki and Skylar Herrera opened the game with doubles and Makemson had a single in her at-bat for a 2-0 lead. Addi Lewis scored off a wild pitch in the second inning and LCU took a 3-0 advantage.
  • Bailey Rominger got the Eagles on the scoreboard with a two-run single in the bottom of the second inning, and Addison Spears cleared the bases later in the inning with a bases-loaded-double. It was a five-run inning for CSC to provide them a 5-3 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth inning, Muniz drove in a run on a single, but it would be the only run LCU would get despite having two runners in scoring position with no outs.
  • The Lady Chaps would eventually take the lead in the sixth inning, posting five runs on the scoreboard in the frame for a 9-5 advantage. LCU had four hits in the inning, with Martinez getting the big one; a bases-loaded-single to centerfield, which led to an error on the play and placed Martinez at third base. Alivia Villarreal singled in a run and Hannah Banker walked with the bases loaded to complete the scoring in the inning.
  • Each team traded a run in the seventh inning, with Muniz singling in a run to complete a three-hit game.

Inside the Numbers:
  • LCU's 10 runs matched a single-game high this season and it is the third time LCU has scored 10 runs in a game this season.
  • The Lady Chaps improved to 4-0 all-time against Chadron State, and Friday's meeting was their first away from Lubbock.
  • Pitcher Jordan Wehr's garnered the win in the circle (three earned runs allowed off eight hits in a 7.0-inning complete effort) and she improves her LCU career pitching record to 16-6 and she has seven complete games (three this season).
  • LCU had held opponents this season to an 0-for-6 mark when the bases are loaded. CSC went 2-for-3 in bases-loaded at-bats Friday.
  • Wysocki had a triple in the game and has three on the season. She led the nation last season with eight triples (she now has 11 in her career).
  • LCU was 11-for-27 with runners on base (Makemson and Muniz were each 3-for-4 in at-bats with runners on base) and 9-for-22 with runners in scoring position (Muniz was 3-for-3 with runners in scoring position).
  • Each team was even when it came to outs on balls put into play, as CSC grounded out eight times and flew out eight times, while LCU evenly had seven groundouts and seven fly-outs.
