Game 1 – LCU vs. UCCS
LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
UCCS was threatening with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning, but
Taylor Franco was able to get a strikeout for the third out and UCCS left the bases loaded. Opponents are now 0-for-4 against Franco with the bases loaded this season.
How it Happened:
- Donaldson grounded out, leading to a pair of runs scoring (second run on a throwing error on the throw home, which was aimed at trying to retire Wysocki, the first runner). Makemson followed with a solo home run deep to left field.
- LCU plated five runs across the plate in the second inning. Schwartzenburg started it off with a two-run home run. Later in the inning with two outs, Clarissa Martinez doubled to score a run and Donaldson followed with a two-run home run to centerfield.
- The Lady Chaps capped the scoring with a two-run fourth inning. A double steal led to a throwing error and Wysocki scored. Herrera, who was the trail runner, held up at third base and eventually scored on a single by Donaldson.
Inside the Numbers:
- LCU's 4-0 season start marks the sixth time in the past seven seasons in which LCU has started off the season 4-0. LCU opened last season with wins in their first four contests.
- The Lady Chaps are now 3-0 all-time against UCCS. They will meet again Feb. 16 in Edmond, Okla.
- The shutout was the second of the season for LCU, who recorded five shutouts last season. It was Franco's fifth career complete game shutout and the second of the season. The last time LCU had consecutive games with a shutout was last season (done once) and it also involved UCCS.
- LCU was 6-for-12 with runners on base, with Donaldson 2-for-3.
- Franco's last outing was against Lee, who was 2-for-11 with runners on base and they hit into seven groundouts. Friday, UCCS was 2-for-10 with runners on base and of their eight balls put into play, eight were groundouts.
- Savannah Wysocki's three stolen bases were a career high and the most by a Lady Chap in a single game since Courtney Medina had three against Eastern New Mexico on Apr. 23, 2018.
Game 2 – LCU vs. CSC
LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
After going the opening 3.2 innings without a hit and one hit through four innings, LCU opened the fifth inning with four consecutive hits, with three for extra bases. It led to a four-run fifth inning.
How it Happened:
- Wysocki walked in the bottom of the first inning and scored off an errant throw to third base during a stolen base.
- Bailey Rominger homered in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game 1-1, but LCU answered in the bottom of the inning with four runs. Wysocki drove in a run off a double and Herrera followed with a three-run homer.
- The pair came around again in the sixth inning for some insurance. Wysocki added an RBI with a double and Herrera followed with a RBI off a groundout.
Inside the Numbers:
- LCU's 5-0 season start is their best since a 7-0 start in 2017.
- The Lady Chaps are now 3-0 all-time against UCCS. They will meet again Feb. 14 in Oklahoma City.
- Jordan Wehr became the third Lady Chap pitcher to claim a win this season (1-0) and is 14-6 all-time as a Lady Chap.
- Chadron was 0-for-11 with runners on base and 1-for-12 in advancement opportunities (LCU was 5-for-11 with runners on base, with Wysocki 2-for-2).
- Wysocki finished the game with two doubles, matching a career high she had done once prior.
- Bailey Marvel (2-for-4) had two of Chadron's four hits in the game.
