Lady Chaps Shut out Patriots on Senior Day For Seventh Win

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 16, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University honored six seniors with a 1-0 win over UT Tyler at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex on Saturday.

The Lady Chaps are now 7-2-2 on the season and 4-2-1 in Lone Star Conference play. Their 13 league points are tied for the fourth-most in conference. Seniors Hannah Wise, Shadiana Haney, Abbey Currie, Allison Scott, Tegan Wilson and Dallas Sanders were recognized at halftime for their time with Lubbock Christian.

It was the fifth shutout of the season for LCU, although the game was pretty even offensively. The Lady Chaps had 18 shots, six who which were on goal UT Tyler also had six shots on goal out of 13 total shots.

While Lubbock Christian had all six of its shots on goal in the second half, the Patriots were on the attack early. Wise was force to make a save just 1:26 into the match, and in the sixth minute Korey Cyr put a shot on goal that was cleared out by Kaylen McNatt. UTT's final shot on goal of the opening period came at the 20:23 mark, but Wise was again there to make the save.

LCU was not without its chances in the first half, taking four shots in the first 20 minutes of play. Celia Duarte had the best chance of the group, shooting toward the upper 90 in the 17th minute, but her shot just sailed high. Other shots from each team missed the goal, and they went into halftime knotted up a zero.

UT Tyler came out on the attack again early in the second half, forcing a save from Wise in the 54th minute, but then LCU's offense found its stride.

Arely Jimenez put the first Lady Chap shot on goal in the 59th minute, right before Makenna Pate took another shot that was blocked past the end line for an LCU corner. Julie Shahi took the corner and sent in a nice cross that was flicked toward the goal by Lindsey Elison, but her shot was blocked. The ball was sent back out by a Patriot defender, but Shahi controlled at the edge of the box and fired another shot on goal. It was saved by  the keeper, who dove to the ground but the ball bounced straight up and Elison waiting under it, pushing it into the back of the net with her chest.

The goal was Elison's first of the season, making her the ninth different Lady Chap to score this season. It was also the first game-winner of her career and her third goal with Lubbock Christian.

LCU's offense continued to apply pressure throughout the rest of the game with shots on goal from Shadiana Haney, Madi Fuller and Giorgia Terzoni coming over the next 20 minutes of play. The second goal never came, but the Lady Chap defense locked in and made the one goal stand up to win the game.

Lubbock Christian's goals against average for the season is now down to 1.00, which is tied for the fourth-best mark in the Lone Star Conference. Wise earned the win in goal, moving to 38-28-3 all-time with her 30th career shutout.

Next up for the Lady Chaps is a battle with Angelo State, which is important with the Belles just one point ahead of them in the league standings. The match is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
