Lady Chaps Come Up Short at Midwestern

LCU Puts Four Shots on Goal in Loss

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (October 27, 2021) – The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team allowed just one goal, but Midwestern State made sure it was enough in a 1-0 LCU loss Wednesday at Stang Park.

The Lady Chaps (7-5-2, 4-5-1) had four shots on goal in the game and the Mustangs (9-3-3, 6-1-3) had just one more. MSU connected on one in the 33rd minute though, and LCU was never able to get the equalizer.

Lubbock Christian actually took the game's first shot, as Avery Jennings missed wide right just 1:02 into the match, and Lady Chap forward Lindsey Elison provided the first shot on goal by either team in the 18th minute, but it was saved.

Julie Shahi had another LCU offensive chance in the 30th minute, sending in a nice bending shot at the top right corner from about 20 yards out, but the MSU keeper stepped over to make the save.

The Mustangs did not have their first shot on goal of the game until the 33rd minute, and Hannah Wise pushed it over the crossbar for a corner kick. MSU earned another corner kick 30 seconds later and converted this time, getting the eventual game-winner from Cassidy Savoy.

Midwestern State nearly doubled their lead early in the second half with two more shots on goal, but Wise was their two make the save both times. She had four saves in the match overall.

The Lady Chaps had two really good chances to even the score during the final period. The first was another shot from Elison in the 68th minute, but it was right at the Mustang goalkeeper. Then with just five minutes Makenna Pate intercepted a pass at midfield, pushed forward about 15 yards before driving a shot on the MSU goal. Her effort was impressive, but the keeper was there to stop what would have been a heroic game-tying goal.

After two straight games on the road, Lubbock Christian will now return home to host St. Edward's in yet another important Lone Star Conference matchup. The Lady Chaps and Hilltoppers will kick off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
