LUBBOCK, Texas (October 9, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University held Texas A&M-Commerce scoreless for 76 minutes on Saturday but allowed three goals late in a loss Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
The Lady Chaps fall to 6-2-2 with the loss and are now 3-2-1 in Lone Star Conference play.
Texas A&M-Commerce was on the attack from the start, taking advantage of the fact that they got the wind at their backs for the first 45 minutes of play. A pair of shots were put on goal in the first five minutes by Cora Welch and Leslie Campuzano, but
Hannah Wise made both saves.
Wise made another save in the 13
th minute, right before what ended up being the best scoring chance for LCU all day.
Allison Scott received the ball in the box and cut to the right, shooting toward the top left corner. The ball sailed over the Lion keeper's outstretched hands, but continued to rise in the wind and went just over the crossbar.
Despite the loss, Scott's appearance in the match was a milestone, as she played in her 76
th career game and became the Lubbock Christian program leader in that category. She passed former teammate Haley Knesek and has played in every LCU game since her freshman season (2017).
TAMUC hit off the post in the 17
th minute and went back and forth with four corner kicks in a five-minute span around the 27
th minute mark, but still they were kept scoreless.
Kaylen McNatt prevented a near-olympico goal in the 30
th minute by clearing a ball off the line and Wise made two more saves before the half ended with the teams still deadlocked at zero.
Now playing with the win,
Julie Shahi took an early shot in the second half that missed high, but the Lions continued to control the ball. Texas A&M-Commerce had a pair of chances in the 67
th minute, with Wise making another tough save and another shot hitting off the post.
Ten minutes later though, the Lions were able to break through on a shot from Campuzano.
Lubbock Christian tried to even the score quickly, and Shahi got another shot off, but it was blocked, and the Lions used the counterattack to double their lead. Christina Hernandez added on final goal with just seven seconds left for the final score of 3-0.
The Lady Chaps will not play next Wednesday, giving them some time to rest before they host UT Tyler at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex on Oct. 16.
