Sharp-Shooting Chaps Take Down Sharks

LCU 66.7 Percent From the Field

HONOLULU (Nov. 25, 2021) – The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team put on its best shooting performance of the season on Thursday, earning a 76-50 Thanksgiving Day win over Hawai'i Pacific at The Shark Tank.

The Chaps (6-0) hit on 61.2 percent of their shots from the field, instead of a scorching 66.7 percent in the second half. They also made 55 percent of their shots from behind the arc, just one night after going 11-for-28 on three-pointers.

Playing in their home gym, the Sharks got off on the right foot, scoring the first four points of the game before Parker Hicks hit a three-pointer. Layups by Karhan Jones – who made his first collegiate start in the win – and Lloyd Daniels put the Chaps on top at the 17:01 mark.

Then with just under 16 minutes to play in the half, Rowan Mackenzie scored seven straight points on his own, which turned into a 14-0 run by the Chaps overall, and they led by 14 with 11:08 to go in the half. The Sharks pushed back with a run of their own though and cut the deficit back to just six. A three-pointer by Hicks and a layup from Makenzie had Lubbock Christian up by 11 at halftime.

LCU ran away with the game in the second half. They stayed ahead by double-digits and put the game out of reach for good about 10 minutes into the halfway. Daniels kicked off the run with an and-one layup, which led to an eventual 9-0 run by the Chaps, increasing their lead to 21 points.

Lubbock Christian kept up their hot shooting and kept the lead at more than 20 points for the remainder of the game. The lead got to its widest point with five minutes to play, when Zach Stepp hit a three-pointer. He hit one more before the game ended and Jones hit to more layup for the final score of 76-50.

Four LCU players finished in double-figures in the win, led by Daniels with 19 points on 7-for-12 shooting. The New Jersey native also pulled down nine rebounds, falling just one short of his second straight double-double.

Hicks scored 14 points, Aamer Muhammad scored 12 and Rowan Makenzie finished with 11. Makenzie also had a season-high eight rebounds.

TURNING POINT
LCU's 14-0 run that began at the 15:54 of the first half gave them breathing room to work with for the remainder of the game and the 9-0 run in the second half put the game out of reach for good.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
61.2 | The Chaps' 61.2 shooting percentage was their highest in a singe game since they shot 62.5 percent on Feb. 27, 2021 in a win at West Texas A&M
9 | Prior to this week's Hawai'i trip, Lloyd Daniels had played in 54 career games with the Chaps and not once led the team in rebounding. With his nine boards on Thursday, he has now led in that category for two straight games
50.0 | LCU did still struggle at the free throw line in The Shark Tank, going just 5-for-5 in their attempts from the charity stripe
