How It Happened

Set One:
LCU witnessed a 7-3 and 16-13 lead go to the wayside in the opening set. ENMU, trailing 16-13, went on a 5-1 run and closed the set on a 6-1 run. The Greyhounds scored the final four points to win the set 25-21. ENMU hit .323 in the opening frame and had five players with at least two kills in the set. They also had 5.0 blocks, with six different Greyhounds registering a block. Jenna Lyons (4) and Aaliyah Gray (3) combined for seven kills in the opening set for LCU.

Set Two:
The second set was mixed with early runs. LCU broke a 3-3 tie with a 4-0 run, but ENMU called a timeout and responded with a 5-1 run to tie the set at 8-8. The trend continued with ENMU countering another 4-0 LCU run (featured two kills from Lyons) with a 4-0 run to keep the set tied (13-13). It would stay tight until LCU, trailing 21-20, called a timeout and returned with two kills from Hannah Froeschl and an ace from Chloe Menard to ignite a 5-1 run to close the set with a 25-22 win. Lyons produced six kills in the set that contained 13 scoring ties and five lead changes. LCU had 14 kills in the set and hit .290.

Set Three:
With the set tied 4-4, LCU went on a 6-1 run capped by a serving ace from Zoe Parker for a 10-5 lead. It was part of an overall 10-1 run to build a 14-6 lead. ENMU tried to chip away, going on a 7-3 scoring run to cut LCU's lead to 17-13. LCU would go on to end the set on a 6-1 run for a 25-16 set win. Chain led LCU with five kills in the set, as LCU had their best attacking set, hitting .357 (two attack errors on the set). Kaitlyn Mayo and Froeschl each had three blocks in the frame, as LCU had a 5-1 advantage in team blocks.

Set Four:
The final set was played closer than the score indicated and the statistics, as ENMU had 11 attack errors (compared to five by LCU). Qitana Sapiga had an ace to cap a 7-1 'Hounds run, and they led 9-5. Chain halted the run with a kill, which was one of two she had before ENMU had five errors leading to a 9-2 LCU scoring surge. She also had three blocks in the scoring run, which provided a short-lived 14-11 lead. ENMU's Gannon recorded a kill to rally a 6-1 lead for a 17-15 Greyhounds lead, which included a pair of kills from Rae Sapiga. The Greyhounds led 20-18, but then committed five attack errors and a serving error to allow LCU to end the match on a 7-1 run. Chain had the only kill during the run to claim three kills and four blocks in the set, and her final kill was the 25th point to give LCU a 25-21 set win to claim the match.
