Negative Night For Lady Chaps

Losing Streak Hits Five, as Negative Attack Percentage Inside Rip Griffin Center Was Worst since 2007

Highlights
LCU struggled in their fourth and final regular season meeting against West Texas A&M in a Rivalry on the Range Lone Star Conference West Division match, falling to WT in straight sets. The loss is LCU's fifth straight loss and fourth consecutive loss in straight sets. Playing their second consecutive game without kills leader Avery Moore, LCU matched a season-low in kills with 26. They had 30 attack errors in the three sets and completed the match with a season-low -.035 attack percentage. Jenna Lyons led LCU with eight kills. They received a double-double from Jenna Lyons, who had 19 assists and 11 digs. WT was led by a double-double performance from Torrey Miller, who had 12 kills and 10 digs. Chandler Vogel also posted 21 digs for WT.

How It Happened

Set One:
LCU was plagued by 10 attack errors in the opening set, as they struggled getting kill attempts over the net. WT led throughout the set. Each team had early 4-1 runs and LCU trailed 12-11 before WT went on a 6-1 run. LCU attempted a rally, going on a 3-1 run to cut the deficit to 21-17, but the Lady Buffs held off the Lady Chaps and claimed the set 25-19. WT had an 11-9 advantage in kills in the set, with LCU having a -.027 attack percentage. Miller led WT and Lyons led LCU in kills, as each had five in the set.      

Set Two:
LCU had the upper hand early in the second set, taking the first three points of the set, but they were unable to get out of the negative in hitting percentage. WT went on a 5-0 run, with four LCU errors leading to four of the WT points. They later went on 6-0 run, with three of the WT points off errors for a 13-7 WT lead. WT kept their distance and won the set 25-15.  

Set Three:
Trailing 5-2 in the third set, the Lady Buffs went on an 11-4 scoring surge to take a 13-9 lead. A kill by Jalee Sims brought the Lady Chaps within two (13-11), but WT responded with a 5-0 run, which was part of a 12-4 run to close the match for a 25-15 set win. WT had a 14-7 advantage in the set in kills. They had 4.0 blocks in the set and Vogel had nine digs, as the Lady Buffs provided a defensive final set.

Inside the Numbers:
-.035 – The Lady Chaps season-low hitting percentage of -.035 was their lowest number since a mark of -.046 on Aug. 24, 2018 against Rockhurst. The mark Wednesday was LCU's worst at home since a -.092 on Sept. 18, 2007 against Texas Woman's inside Rip Griffin Center.
0-9 – LCU is 0-9 in the second set of matches played this season.
2 – LCU served a season-low two aces for a second consecutive match. Despite the low, LCU still has a 38-32 advantage in aces against their opponents this season.
5 – Lubbock Christian has dropped five consecutive matches and have one set win in the span. The last time LCU has dropped five consecutive matches was in September of 2017, when they suffered a six-match losing streak.
8 – LCU setter Jalee Sims had 19 assists and 11 digs to complete her eighth double-double of the season.
33 – WT won their 33rd match against LCU all-time, extending their series lead to 33-13-1 all-time.
