How It Happened
Set One:
LCU never trailed in the opening set. They had a marginal lead maintained until
Zoe Parker had consecutive kills to jumpstart a 6-1 run for a 20-14 lead. Later, a 23-17 lead was cut to 23-20, leading to LCU calling a timeout. LCU responded from the timeout with kills from
Sage Post and
Avery Moore to claim the set 25-20. LCU hit .385 in the set, with Post leading LCU with five kills in the set. LCU had 19 as a team in the set.
Set Two:
The Falcons came out flying in the second set. They opened with a 5-1 lead, which was part of a 7-2 run to start the set. Post produced a pair of kills during a 4-1 response to cut LCU's deficit to 11-8, but UTPB answered with a 4-1 run of their own. Following an LCU timeout, LCU went on a 7-2 run capped by a
Chloe Menard ace and a
Sage Chain kill to cut UTPB's lead to 17-16. Leading 20-18, UTPB closed the set on a 5-3 run to win the set 25-21. Taurie Magee led UTPB with five kills in the set.
Set Three:
LCU let go of an 8-6 lead as UTPB went on a 9-2 run for a 15-10 lead. A trio of kills by
Kalli Dalland helped LCU climb back into the set and cut UTPB's lead to 19-18, but they were unable to get any closer. LCU made four errors and UTPB closed the set on a 6-0 run for a 25-18 set win for a 2-1 match lead. Magee led UTPB again in the set, pacing the Falcons with four kills.
Maddie DeGuire had her second set of the match with eight kills, matching her set-high from the opening set.
Set Four:
UTPB controlled most of the fourth set, starting off with a 6-1 run. They maintained their large lead, leading as much as 22-13 before claiming the set 25-17 to win the match 3-1. UTPB had an 18-11 advantage in kills in the set, with Isela Murillo (6) and Aquincia Strambler (5) combining for 11 kills. Post, who led LCU in kills in each of the four sets, posted six of LCU's 11 kills in the frame.
