LUBBOCK, Texas (February 7, 2021) – The Lubbock Christian University women's soccer team was back in action on Sunday, taking on Abilene Christian in an exhibition, which ACU came back to win 3-2 in overtime.
The contest did count for ACU, who moved to 4-2-1 on the year with the win and claimed their second-straight overtime victory. LCU will begin the regular season on Feb. 12, when they travel to Canyon, Texas to take on West Texas A&M at 7 p.m.
In the first half of the game, it was all Lady Chaps.
Allison Scott took the first shot of the game 8:12 in, and
Makenna Pate put a shot on goal 40 seconds later, forcing a save from ACU goalkeeper Erin Smith. LCU had seven total shots in the first half, compared to just five for the Wildcats.
Lubbock Christian finally broke through in the 34
th minute, as
Tegan Wilson scored with assists from
Makenna Pate and
Allison Scott. It was Wilson's first goal since Sept. 28, 2019, when she scored in a 3-0 win at UT Tyler. It was the first point of any kind for Pate since Oct. 25, 2018, as she missed all of the 2019 season with an injury.
Less than two minutes later, Wilson found the back of the net again, with another assist from Pate. It was Wilson's first-ever multi-goal game and marked a new single-game high for her with four points.
ACU put one shot on goal in the 41
st minute, but it was saved by LCU goalkeeper
Hannah Wise, and the Lady Chaps went into halftime up 2-0.
The Wildcat offense began to click more in the second half and put a shot on goal just 47 seconds into play that Wise stopped again. Wise was forced to make two more saves before ACU finally broke through with a goal from Natalie Wodka in the 72
nd minute.
In the 82
nd minute, Abilene Christian evened the score with a goal from Alyssia Anuat, forcing the overtime period.
Wodka found the back of the net for a second time nine minutes into the overtime, winning the game for the Wildcats.
