ODESSA, Texas (March 10, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University scored a pair of first half goals and held UT Permian Basin to just one shot on goal all game, cruising to a 2-0 win on Wednesday night.
The Lady Chaps (3-2, 1-1) dominated all offensive categories, tallying 13 shots, eight of which were on goal, and a season-high 11 corner kicks to take down the Falcons (0-5, 0-2). Lubbock Christian has now won six straight meetings with UT Permian Basin, dating back to the 2015 season.
LCU's first corner kick came just a minute and a half into the game, as they went on the attack early.
Victoria Ramirez had the team's first shot on goal in the 15
th minute and
Makenna Pate added another a minute later, but both were saved by the UTPB keeper.
After three straight corner kicks in the 16
th, 17
th and 20
th minutes, Lubbock Christian finally broke through on a goal from
Allison Scott. The goal ended up being the game-winner, giving Scott her first of the season and 10
th of her career. It was the her second goal overall this year and her 22
nd as a Lady Chap.
Makenna Pate assisted on the goal, giving her three points this season.
The Lady Chaps continued to control the ball, earning three more corner kicks in the 10 minutes after their opening goal. In the 30
th minute,
Julie Shahi put a shot on goal, but it was saved.
In the 33
rd minute, freshman forward
Lindsey Elison entered the game off the bench and quickly made her presence felt. The Albuquerque native put shots on goal in the 38
th and 43
rd minutes before breaking through and scoring for the first time in her college career in the 43
rd minute.
Shahi put one more shot on goal before halftime, giving the Lady Chaps eight for the half, and they went into the halftime break up by two.
The offense slowed down in the second half for Lubbock Christian, with only four shots and three corner kicks, but the defense really locked in. UTPB attempted just one shot the entire second half while earning a pair of corner kicks. The three shots by the Falcons were the lowest amount allowed by the LCU defense this season.
The Lady Chaps now have a week of practice before their next game, which will be against St. Edward's at 2 p.m. on March 17 at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
