Game 1
LCU Highlights:
Turning Point:
Savannah Wysocki led off the game with a triple to set the game's tone. The triple led to a four-run inning, as Wysocki batted twice in the inning.
How it Happened:
- Wysocki reached on a triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Skylar Herrera. LCU would then score three runs off consecutive bases-loaded walks for a 4-0 lead.
- The walks would mount up in the second inning. After five walks in the first inning, two in the second inning led to an Addi Lewis RBI-single for a 5-0 lead.
- Doubles by Brooke Makemson and Addi Lewis (each for an RBI) and a two-run home run by Athena Muniz highlighted a six-run third inning, before a pinch-hit solo home run by Bella Smith closed the scoring in the fourth inning.
Inside the Numbers:
- Taylor Franco improved to 9-3 on the season in the circle. She was part of her second combined shutout (she has six shutouts and two combined shutouts, for a total of being a part of eight shutouts). Dakota Stotyn struck out two of the three batters she faced in an inning of relief.
- Savannah Wysocki hit her third triple of the season and she has 15 in her LCU career to tie with Brittany Kent (2011-2012) for the most in program history.
- WNMU walked nine batters in the game, which ties as the most times the Lady Chaps have been walked this season (Feb. 27 vs. Central Okla.).
- Athena Muniz connected on her fourth home run of the season and her fifth of her LCU career.
- Freshman Bella Smith hit her first career home run and became the eighth different Lady Chaps player to homer this season.
- Nine different Lady Chaps had at least one RBI in the game.
Game 2
LCU Highlights:
- Maxine Valdez went 4.0 innings to help combine for a shutout an struck out seven batters
- Tyla Lee went 2-for-3 with a triple and a home run for two RBI.
- Skylar Herrera was 1-for-1 with a trio of RBI.
Turning Point:
LCU had five consecutive batters reach on either a walk or error in a six-run third inning, which allowed LCU to pull away with a 9-0 lead.
How it Happened:
- Skylar Herrera reached on a walk and scored on a triple by Tyla Lee in the first inning for a 1-0 lead.
- LCU extended the lead to 3-0 after a two-run single by Herrera.
- Lee led off the third inning with a home run before three walks and two errors by the Mustangs allowed LCU to stockpile the bases. Herrera hit a sacrifice fly and Brooke Makemson followed with an RBI single to cap the six-run third inning for a 9-0 lead.
Inside the Numbers:
- Brooke Makemson extended her hit streak to 20 games to match a program record. The only prior 20-game hit streak in program history was by Raquel Hawkins, who had a 20-game hit streak in the inaugural 2008 season.
- Tyla Lee hit her first career triple and second career home run in the game.
- Skylar Herrera had two sacrifice flies on the day and now has four on the season, which is the highest single-season total since Megan Sullivan had five in 2014. Herrera has five sacrifice flies in her LCU career, placing her in the top-10 among LCU career leaders in the category.
- Maxine Valdez claimed her first win of the season in the circle (1-3). She was part of a combined shutout (Dakota Stotyn struck out two in 1.0 innings of relief, just as she did in the first inning) for LCU's ninth shutout of the season, which is the most since the team produced 10 shutout wins in 2017.
- LCU improved to 10-0 all-time against WNMU.
Up Next:
LCU remains at PlainsCapital Park Sunday at 1 p.m. for a LSC doubleheader against UT Permian Basin.
