Box Score WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 2, 2021) – Lubbock Christian University was unable to get a third straight win to start the spring 2021 season, falling 3-0 at Midwestern State on Tuesday.
The Chaps are now 2-1 on the year after the loss against preseason Lone Star Conference favorite MSU. They will return home for their next contest, taking on UT Tyler at 1 p.m. March 13 at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
The Mustangs applied the offensive pressure early, taking a pair of shots in the first three minutes and putting their first one on frame in the fifth minute, but it was saved by LCU goalkeeper
Braxton Thorne.
Thorne was a busy man throughout the game for the Chaps, making seven saves overall, which was his most since he also made seven on Oct. 5, 2019 in an overtime game against Oklahoma Christian.
LCU created its first offensive chance in the 12
th minute, as
Pablo Galietero Diez put a shot on goal, but it was stopped by MSU goalkeeper Colby Parton. Just over a minute later, Trevor Amann broke the scoreless tie and gave the Mustangs the lead.
The Chaps tried to equalize quickly, and
Hector Rodriguez-Cabo took a shot on frame in the 16
th minute, but Parton again made the save.
Thorne made saves again in the 25
th and 42
nd minutes, but the latter earned Midwestern State a corner kick, which they took advantage of with a goal from Mere Escobar to go up 2-0 heading into halftime.
LCU could not create much offense early in the second half, and the Mustangs increased their lead with a second goal from Amann in the 65
th minute. The Chaps' only shot on goal in the half came from
Juan Jose Valdez Lopez in the 71
st minutes. It earned Lubbock Christian a corner kick, but they were unable to take advantage.
Thorne made two more saves in the last five minutes of play before the final horn sounded.
