Lady Chaps outshoot Greyhounds, but cannot find breakthrough goal in scoreless draw

LCU records 20 shots in one match for the third time this season

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lady Chaps out shot Eastern New Mexico 20-6, but could not find the back of the net, resulting in a scoreless draw between the two teams on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

It was the Greyhounds (4-10-2, 5-2-4 LSC) who came out shooting early, as a shot by Karlee Scott in the 11th minute was saved by Abby Kone.

In the 24th minute, Avery Jennings got the first shot on target for the Lady Chaps (8-2-7, 5-2-4 LSC), but Samantha Jefferies made the stop for Eastern New Mexico to keep the game scoreless.

Both sides stayed relatively quiet in the first half, as Carla Martinez got one more shot on goal for the Lady Chaps in the 43rd minute, but a Jefferies save sent both teams to the intermission without a goal.

The chances came in bunches for LCU in the second half, with Graycen Rasmussen, Arely Jimenez and Celia Duarte all recording shots within the first 12 minutes of the second half. Rasmussen saw the best chance come in the 58th minute, but her breakaway went off the crossbar and out of play.

In the 62nd minute, Jefferies made a finger tip save on a shot by Andy Holder, and Rasmussen could not connect off the rebound, and the game remained tied.

On a breakaway chance in the 73rd minute, Abby Ditzler saw the best look for the Greyhounds, but her shot also went off the crossbar, keeping Eastern New Mexico off the scoreboard.

Rasmussen got two more chances at putting the Lady Chaps on top, but saves by Jefferies in the 83rd minute and with 53 seconds left kept the game tied. LCU got one more chance with a corner kick with 46 seconds left, but Eastern New Mexico cleared the ball out of the box and held on to finish with a 0-0 draw.

Kone picks up her seventh shutout of the season, tying Lauren Story for the third most in a season.

By stepping on the pitch, Jimenez becomes the first Lady Chap to play in 80 matches in a career. She passes Katie O'Gara for third most minutes played in a career, playing for 5,693 minutes as a Lady Chap.

Rasmussen moved into the top-10 in shot attempts in a season, tying Claudia Sanchez for tenth most shot attempts in a season for any Lady Chap with 57. Her 3.80 shots per game rank sixth most in a season for any Lady Chap.

The Lady Chaps close out the regular season with a trip to San Antonio on Saturday, Oct. 29 to face St. Mary's. A win would give LCU a home match in the first round of the Lone Star Conference Tournament. Kickoff against the Rattlers is set for 1 PM.
