LUBBOCK, Texas (October 29, 2022) – Lubbock Christian University used a 53.6% shooting percentage and double-figure scoring production from four different players, as the Lady Chaparrals defeated Southwestern Assemblies of God (SAGU) 91-57.
LCU opened the game shooting 66.7% (10/15) from the field in the first quarter, with points from nine different players. Toss in additional nine points from the line and LCU racked up 34 points in the quarter for a 34-20 lead.
Audrey Robertson posted 14 points in the first half and helped LCU take a 50-35 lead at the half.
The Lady Chaps exploded in the second half, outscoring the Lady Lions 20-8 in the third quarter and 21-14 in the fourth quarter.
Shaylee Stovall led LCU in second half scoring, knocking down a trio of three-pointers and notching 10 points in the half.
Robertson led all scorers with 18 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field. Stovall (15 points),
Martie McCoy (11 points) and
Grace Foster (10 points) also finished in double figures in points. Foster, who had a +35 plus/minus, had a game-high 11 rebounds to complete a double-double. She was also 3-of-3 from the field and knocked down all four of her free-throw attempts.
Maci Maddox led all players with seven assists.
LCU had a 30-14 advantage in points in the paint and a 19-8 advantage in points-off-turnovers. SAGU, a NAIA program based in Waxahachie, Texas, had some West Texas flare to their lineup and received 16 points and nine rebounds from Slaton, Texas product Mary Jo Parker.
The regular season for LCU opens Saturday, November 5 in Kansas City at the MIAA D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at Municipal Auditorium. LCU opens with Missouri Western.
