TYLER, Texas - A Samaris Alvarado goal in the 23rd minute was all UT Tyler needed, knocking off Lubbock Christian 1-0 on Saturday, Oct. 8.
Both teams came out hot on offense, with
Graycen Rasmussen recording the first shot of the match for the Lady Chaps (6-1-5, 3-1-2 LSC) in the fifth minute that was saved by Camri Cecil. UT Tyler (7-2-2, 2-2-2 LSC) answered in kind in the eighth minute by Kaylee West that went just high.
The Patriots got on the board for the first time ever in the series against Lubbock Christian in the 23rd minute, as a couple of nice passes from Sydney Garner and Kylie Criner found the feet of Alvarado, who rifled a shot over the arms of Abby Kone to give UT Tyler the lead. The goal marked the first time that the Lady Chaps have trailed this season in 296:51 of game action, after a goal in the 48th minute back on Sept. 17 by no. 1 Dallas Baptist.
Celia Duarte got another good look for the Lady Chaps in the 35th minute, but the shot went off the woodwork.
Annabel Westbrook and Faith Adje got two more clean looks for the Patriots in the final three minutes of the opening half, but Kone came through with two more saves and LCU went into the locker room down 1-0.
Criner came out in the second half looking for two more points in the match, but her shot in the 51st minute was also swallowed up by Kone. Four minutes later, Duarte got another look at a Lady Chap goal, but Cecil made a big save of her own.
The Lady Chaps last two chances came in the 82nd minute, as shots by
Carla Martinez and
Julie Shahi just missed the mark and the Patriots held on to hand LCU their first loss of the season.
LCU has now gone 265:56 of game action without a goal, their last goal coming 4:04 into the match on Sept. 24 against Texas A&M International. It's the first time the Lady Chaps have been shutout in back-to-back matches since Oct. 27-30, 2021 when LCU lost 1-0 to Midwestern State and St. Edward's.
Lubbock Christian will look to get back on track on Wednesday, Oct. 12, heading to Angelo, Texas to face no. 22 Angelo State. Kickoff is set for 7 PM
