Final Regular Season Homestand Opens With Win Over ENMU

Ashton Duncan Becomes LCU's Three-Point Attempts Leader, As She Leads LCU with 15 Points

LUBBOCK, Texas (February 22, 2022) – No.11 Lubbock Christian University closed out their home-and-home series against Eastern New Mexico with a Lone Star Conference meeting in which LCU's Ashton Duncan (15) and Juliana Robertson (14) combined for 29 points and led the Lady Chaparrals to a 73-49 victory inside Rip Griffin Center Tuesday night.
 
The two teams had their offense rolling to open the game. LCU opened the game making their first five field goal attempts and both teams were 6-of-10 to start the game. The Lady Chaps had the game's first five points and Duncan scored seven of LCU's first 12 points for a 12-5 lead 2:34 into the game.
 
LCU and ENMU combined for 32 points in the first six minutes of the game, but LCU produced a 4-0 run for the only points over the final four minutes of the quarter for a 23-13 lead. Duncan (7) and Robertson (6) combined for 13 points in the quarter, as the Lady Chaps also had an 8-0 scoring advantage in points-off-turnovers.
 
The 4-0 run turned into a 12-2 scoring sequence in the second quarter, as LCU had a pair of 8-0 runs in the quarter. The second 8-0 run was capped by a layup from Robertson and LCU led 39-20 with 2:05 left in the half. Channing Cunyus led LCU with five points in the quarter and LCU led 39-23 at the half. Robertson and Duncan each had 10 points at the break.
 
Duncan scored the first five points of the second half, with Robertson right with her adding a layup to help LCU open the half on a 5-0 run. ENMU, who went the final 4:52 of the first half without a field goal, went the opening 4:19 of the second half without a bucket. Audrey Robertson, who led LCU in the quarter with eight points, hit a three-pointer with 1:42 left in the quarter to build LCU's lead to 58-32. LCU was 9-of-13 (69.2%) from the field in the third quarter.
 
LCU built their lead to 29 points twice in the fourth quarter, before closing the game with a 27-point win (73-46). The Lady Chaps outscored ENMU 11-10 in the fourth quarter despite shooting 17.6% (3/17) from the field.
 
Juliana Robertson and Duncan were the only Lady Chaps in double figures in points. Duncan was 3-of-7 from long range, and her seven attempts placed her with 673 career three-point attempts for a new LCU women's basketball career mark. She moved past Sierra Lovorn (Wilcox), who had 672 attempts 2005-09.
 
Iyanna McCurdy led ENMU with 14 points and was ENMU's only player in double figures. ENMU fell to 9-13 and 5-10 overall.
 
LCU improved to 23-5 overall and 11-4 in LSC play. The Lady Chaps have won 14 of the last 17 meetings, but ENMU still leads the all-time series 24-18.
 
TURNING POINT
After opening the game 6-of-10 from the field, ENMU went 2-of-17 from the field over the remainder of the first half. ENMU was held to two field goals in the second quarter and went the final 4:52 of the half without a field goal. LCU had an 16-5 scoring sequence in the second quarter, which helped them to lead as much as 19 points in the first half.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Laynee Burr went 4-for-4 at the free-throw line in the game and the mark has her 25-of-25 from the free-throw line at home this season. Dating back to last season, she has made 34 consecutive free-throw attempts inside Rio Griffin.

LCU closes out the regular season Thursday at home hosting Western New Mexico for a 5:30 p.m. Lone Star Conference inside Rip Griffin Center.
