LUBBOCK, Texas – Despite outshooting Fort Lewis 14-4, the Lubbock Christian Chaps only mustered three shots on goal over 90 minutes, finishing the night with a scoreless draw on Saturday, Aug. 27.
Fort Lewis (0-0-2) had a chance in the beginning third of the match, as a header by Kaden Schufft was fired into the chest of
Tom Miles off a corner in the 16
th minute. Miles corralled the ball and controlled possession to keep the match scoreless.
The Chaps (1-0-1) earned an advantage early in the match, as Fort Lewis keeper Brendan Oberg was handed a red card in the 27
th minute, sending the Skyhawks down a man for the rest of the match.
In the second half, Lubbock Christian had back-to-back chances in the 54
th and the 55
th minute by
Tariq Bakkali and
Pablo Galietero Diez were saved Evan Kowalski.
The Chaps got one last chance in the 85
th minute, but a shot by Galietero Diez went high and out of play. Fort Lewis was content to run out the clock and the game ended in a scoreless draw.
LCU outshot Fort Lewis 14-4, including 10-1 in the second half. Galietero Diez led the Chaps with six shots, one of those on goal. Four different Fort Lewis Skyhawks recorded a shot, with Maxilian Meier and Schufft. Fort Lewis did not record a shot on goal in the second half.
Miles finished with his first shutout as a Chaparral, tallying two saves in 90 minutes of play. Kowalski earned two saves and the shutout for Fort Lewis in 62 minutes off the bench.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- It's the first scoreless draw for LCU since the 2021 Lone Star Conference Championship match against Midwestern State. The Chaps lost 5-4 on penalty kicks.
- It is the first scoreless draw in the regular season for the Chaps since Sept. 17, 2016, against Newman.
