Match 1
How It Happened
Set One:
A pair of kills by Ella Bines allowed the Nanooks to jump out early with a 4-1 advantage, but LCU bounced back with a 4-1 run to match it and tie the set at 5-5. It would be the only time the set would be tied, as UAF had a 6-2 scoring advantage for an 11-7 lead. Trailing 24-20, LCU attempted a late rally.
Aaliyah Gray produced a kill before a pair of attack errors cut the deficit to 24-23. Rilee White ended the LCU rally with a kill to clinch the set for UAF 25-23. Each team had success at the net. UAF had 18 kills and a .424 attack percentage, while LCU, led by six kills from Gray and five kills from
Lily Bickley, had 15 kills and a .379 attack percentage.
Set Two:
The second set had a similar start to the first, with LCU falling behind 3-1 and responding to tie the set (3-3), but this time LCU's response was a 10-2 run. The run sparked LCU to a 25-15 set win.
Sage Chain produced a trio of kills and a solo block to highlight the LCU set win.
Set Three:
LCU had a promising start in the third set, leading 7-4 after a 3-1 run, but the Nanooks responded with a 9-3 run for a 13-10 advantage. They went on an additional 9-3 run and extended the lead to 22-13 before claiming the set 25-17. UAF hit .480 in the set with five kills from Rilee White. LCU was held to 10 kills, with four from Bickley.
Set Four:
Bickley had two kills early in the fourth set, as LCU jumped out to a 6-2 advantage. UAF charged back with a 7-3 scoring surge to tie the set at 9-9. The score would be knotted up on four occasions and as late as 15-15, but a Karli Nielson kill ignited a 7-2 run to help the Nanooks pull away with a 25-22 set win. LCU had 5.0 blocks in the set, while on the other side, it was Rilee White contributing eight kills in the set for UAF.
Inside the Numbers:
| 4 |
Sage Chain produced four solo blocks in the match. With match-by-match record files on hand since 2008, the four solo blocks tie for the most by a Lady Chaps member. There have been six matches since 2008 with the mark and Chain, who completed the task on Feb 2, 2021 (vs. UT Permian Basin), becomes the first Lady Chaps member (since 2008) to complete four solo blocks in a match twice. As a team, LCU had five solo blocks registered and it matches last season's season-high mark (Sept. 17, 2021). |
| .625 |
Lily Bickley had an attack mark of .625 in the match. Since 2008, Bickley's attack percentage was the fourth highest produced by a Lady Chap and the highest since Jaiden Kennedy posted a .700 mark on October 11, 2018. |
| 0-1 |
LCU falls to 0-1 all-time against the Nanooks, as the two programs had not previously faced each other. |
