Highlights
Lubbock Christian University was off to a solid start after 13 kills in the opening set to take a 1-0 match lead, but Angelo State bounced back late in the second set and took the next three sets to defeat LCU 3-1 in the final match of the Lone Star Conference Crossover at Junell Center on the ASU campus. After posting 13 kills in the opening set, The Lady Chaps would be held to 27 kills over the remaining three sets combined. LCU received success from the serving line, as they had a season-high nine aces and had a 17-12 advantage in points from the line. For a second consecutive match, LCU did not have any player in double figures in kills. They were led by Aaliyah Gray and Payton Murray, who each had seven kills. ASU had a big performance from Sam Rodgers, who had 15 kills and eight blocks in three sets played. Kaila Garnett also provided 13 kills for the Belles.

How It Happened

Set One:
After surrendering an ace to start the match, LCU scored the next five points, capped by an ace from Sage Chain to put LCU up 5-1. LCU maintained the lead and built it to 23-12 after a pair of kills by Aaliyah Gray and a trio of attack errors led to a 7-0 LCU run. The only run greater than 2-0 for ASU was a 4-0 run late, but LCU claimed the set 25-17. Gray finished with five kills in the set, as they hit .344 in the frame.

Set Two:
LCU kept the momentum going in the second set, opening the set with a 6-0 run paced by a pair of kills and a block from Lily Bickley. Chain recorded her second ace of the match to put LCU up 8-2, but the Belles responded with the next five points and cut LCU's lead to 8-7. Zoe Parker served three consecutive serves for aces and a 4-0 pushed the LCU lead to 12-7. The up-and-down momentum shifts continued in the set, as ASU went on a 7-1 rally to take a 14-13 lead. The Lady Chaps had a pair of 3-0 runs and led 23-20 and 24-22, but the Belles closed the set on a 6-1 (including the last four points) run for a 26-24 set win. LCU had seven aces in the set, with Parker producing four of the aces. Sam Rodgers provided five kills and four blocks in the set for ASU. LCU had a -.059 attack percentage after posting a .344 mark the prior set.

Set Three:
The momentum shifted at the close to the prior set to ASU, and they maintained the momentum into the start of the third set by opening the set on a 4-0 run. Chain had a kill to interrupt the hot Belles start, leading to a 5-0 LCU run. Kalli Dalland notched a kill to put LCU up 8-7, but it would be their final lead of the set, as ASU scored the next four points. ASU closed the set scoring 11 of the final 15 points for a 25-16 set win. ASU had a 17-9 advantage in kills in the set, with four different Belles producing four kills.

Set Three:
Trailing 7-3, LCU marched back with a 4-0 rally jumpstarted by a Payton Murray kill. Chain and Kiana Fallaha had consecutive kills to spur a 5-0 run later in the set to provide the Lady Chaps a 14-12 lead. Unfortunately for the Lady Chaps, it was ASU the rest of the way, as the Belles outscored LCU 13-5 to close out the set. Murray (4) and Fallaha (3) combined for seven kills for LCU in the set, while Rodgers fueled the Belles with six kills.

Inside the Numbers:
0-3 LCU went 0-3 in the LSC Crossover, but fortunately all matches were not conference contests. LCU also falls to 0-2 in true road games.
4-1 Saturday's loss marked LCU's first loss of the season when winning the opening set, as they are now 4-1 when winning the first set.
4 Zoe Parker was an ace shy of matching a career high in aces, but with four recorded in the match, it marks as tied for the fifth-most aces in a four-set match since the 2008 season. LCU finished the game with nine aces, which is tied for the seventh-most in a four-set match since 2008 and the most overall since they had nine against Midwestern State on Nov. 2, 2019. In addition, Sage Chain contributed a career high three aces.
7 Freshman Payton Murray co-led LCU in kills with a career-high seven kills, and she did it playing in two of the four sets in the match. She produced a .353 attack percentage.
5-12 LCU falls to 5-12 all-time against ASU in San Angelo and ASU improves to a 23-9 all-time series lead.
