How It Happened
Set One:
LCU let a 1-0 slip, and once trailing, they were unable to regain the lead despite tying the set on six occasions. Genenbacher had a kill to tie the set 18-18, but the Patriots responded on a 7-2 run to close the set for a 25-20 set win. Genenbacher and
Lily Bickley each had four kills in the set. LCU had 16 kills in the set (their highest for a set in the match), with Genenbacher supplying 12 assists in the set.
Set Two:
The second set was neck-and-neck throughout most of the set. LCU surged from a 13-13 tie to take a 17-14 lead, after a combo block provided by
Hailey Cournoyer and
Aaliyah Gray, but UTT rattled off the next three points to tie the set 17-17. Leading 19-18, Gray garnered a kill to spark a 6-3 rally to help LCU win the set 25-21. LCU won the set with 11 kills, as they took advantage of 10 attack errors by UTT.
Set Three:
LCU winning the second set did not lead to any momentum to ride into the third set. UTT had an 8-0 run, which was part of an 11-1 scoring advantage to give UTT a 16-3 lead. UTT had five aces in the set, and also received five kills from Ware, which helped them claim the set 25-15.
Set Four:
LCU bounced back from the third set loss by opening the frame with a 7-2 run, but they could not hold the lead. A 6-0 UTT lead allowed the Patriots to lead 8-7.
Sage Chain had a kill and a block to help LCU go on a 4-0 advantage for a 13-11 LCU lead. UTT followed with another 6-0 run, and this one included a trio of aces for a 23-17 advantage. LCU attempted a late rally, with a 5-1 run to trail 24-22, but Ware ended the match with a kill. Fallaha (5) and Kaitlyn May (4) combined for nine kills in the set for the Lady Chaps, but they were unable to outduel Ware and Callison, who each had five kills for UTT.
