LUBBOCK, TEXAS (January 12, 2023) –
Grace Foster completed her sixth double-double of the season (17 points, 11 rebounds) and was joined by three additional Lady Chaparrals in double figures offensively, led by a career-high 13 points from
Reese Schumann, as Lubbock Christian University shot a season-high 60.4% from the field to top Eastern New Mexico 77-55 in a Lone Star Conference West Division contest Thursday night. The win extended LCU's home win streak to 112 consecutive victories inside Rip Griffin Center.
Foster's team-leading sixth double-double performance got started early, as she posted eight points and four rebounds in the first quarter of play. Her point totals followed
Shaylee Stovall opening the game's scoring with a three-pointer, which was part of five straight points for Stovall to open a 5-0 LCU lead. With 5:15 remaining in the first quarter, Foster hit a three-pointer and followed with an old-school three-pointer to open the first six points of an 8-0 run for a 15-6 lead with 3:33 remaining. LCU went without a field goal the remainder of the quarter and held for a 19-15 lead. LCU shot 66.7% (6/9) in the quarter, but was plagued by eight turnovers for a 9-2 scoring advantage for ENMU in points-off-turnovers.
LCU's drought from the field would end eight seconds into the second quarter, as
Audrey Robertson nailed a three-pointer to build LCU's lead to 22-15. It would be LCU's largest lead for a while, as ENMU responded with an 8-2 run to trail 24-23 halfway through the quarter.
Maci Maddox drained a three-pointer to hold the LCU lead, but Lazurea Saunders responded with a three-pointer for ENMU and it ignited a 7-2 run for a 30-29 ENMU lead with 3:01 remaining. Saunders capped the run with a layup and it turned out to be the final points for ENMU in the half. LCU closed the half on a 6-0 run, highlighted by an
Audrey Robertson three-pointer, for a 35-30 halftime lead. Robertson led LCU with seven points in the second quarter, as her and Foster combined for 17 points in the first half.
The LCU lead fluctuated between 3-7 points throughout most of the third quarter. Each time ENMU cut LCU's lead to one possession, LCU had an answer. Stovall had a layup with LCU leading 35-32 (8:19 remaining), Foster hit a three-pointer with a 39-36 lead (6:34 remaining) and a layup leading 42-40 (5:31 remaining) and Robertson opened a 10-0 run with LCU leading 44-42 with 4:18 remaining to give LCU a 54-42 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The run developed into a 14-0 run following Foster's layup 49 seconds into the fourth quarter for a 58-42 lead. Schumann had seven points in the fourth quarter, with five tallied during a 7-0 run, which was part of a 12-3 run for a 74-52 lead as 3:18 remained. LCU was 10-of-13 from the field in the final frame for a 76.9% shooting percentage. LCU outscored ENMU 23-13 in the fourth quarter and 42-25 in the second half.

Maci Maddox, with a +24 plus/minus, missed out joining the quartet (finished with nine points), but she posted seven assists and three steals. LCU was plagued early by 11 turnovers in the first half, but trimmed their turnover mark to seven in the second half.
LCU was 60.4% from the field (29/48), going 20-of-28 (71.4%) inside the arc. Their shooting percentage from the field was their best shooting performance since a 65.1% clip on Mar. 13, 2021 (vs. Cameron).
ENMU (7-7, 4-5) outscored LCU 12-2 in second-chance scoring, as they had 13 offensive rebounds (LCU had one). Like LCU, the Greyhounds had four players in double figures.
