Lady Chaps Have Cameron Seeing Pink, Posting 53 kills in 3-0 Win

LCU Posts 22 Kills In Third Set to Cap 53-Kill Performance in Straight-Set Win

LUBBOCK, Texas (October 28, 2023) -- Lubbock Christian University produced 53 kills, with 22 in the third set, en route to a 3-0 straight-set Lone Star Conference win (25-10, 25-15, 30-28) against Cameron Saturday in the Lady Chaparrals annual "Play For The Cure" Pink Game inside Rip Griffin Center.

The win moved the Lady Chaps' record to 15-9 overall and 7-7 in LSC action. They also move to 9-1 in matches played on Saturday.

The Lady Chaps attack (hit a season-high .373) was paced by Payton Murray, who finished with 13 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .391, and by Lily Bickley, who had 13 while hitting a whopping .632. Defensively, LCU had two players reach double figures in digs as Chloe Menard had 19 and Kayton Genenbacher had 15 to complete a double-double.

Game Notes

» Kiana Fallaha had a match-high three aces in the win, which matched a career high. LCU had a 7-1 advantage in aces and 13-4 scoring advantage from the serving line. Kayton Genenbacher had a pair of aces, which increased her conference lead with 21 serving aces in LSC Matches.

» Lubbock Christian put together a strong attacking performance, notching 53 kills and 51 assists in the match. The 53 kills are tied for the fourth-most in a three-set match and the 51 assists are tied for the third-most in a three-set match since the current rally scoring started in 2008. Each total are the highest in a three-set match since producing the same totals on Oct. 11, 2018 at Newman, and the most at home since LCU had 56 kills and 51 assists on Nov. 1, 2014 against UT Permian Basin.

» LCU had 22 kills in the third set, which was their highest single-set total since posting 22 kills in the second set of a match against Dallas Baptist on Nov. 7, 2015.

» LCU's hitting percentage of .373 was a season high and their highest mark since hitting .395 on Oct. 29, 2016 at Texas A&M International.

» Payton Murray and Lily Bickley co-led with a match-high 13 kills for Lubbock Christian.

» Lubbock Christian attackers were helped by a match-high 38 assists from Kayton Genenbacher. She added 15 assists for her 13th double-double of the season and 24th of her LCU career. Her assist totals place her with 1,999 career assists.

» LCU's Tatum Fleitman and Macie Morgan each had their first kills of the season and as members of the Lady Chaps. Fleitman, a freshman, was appearing in her second match as a member of the Lady Chaps.

» The loss for Cameron marked their 40th consecutive road loss, which actively leads all of NCAA Division II.

» LCU improved to 7-6 at home this season.

» The match marked Cameron's first-ever trip to Lubbock. LCU improved to 5-3 all-time against Cameron.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Chaps trailed 4-1, but responded with a 16-0 run for a 17-4 lead en route to win 25-10 set win. Lubbock Christian led by 16 points at 23-7 in the process, and collected 15 kills in the frame. Lubbock Christian also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. Payton Murray and Lacie Schooley each had four kills in the set for LCU. Kiana Fallaha had 17 serves in the set.

SET 2 | After their win in the first set, Lubbock Christian put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 25-15 victory in set number two. The Lady Chaps led from the opening point on in the set to earn the victory. Lubbock Christian opened its biggest lead of the stanza, 10 points, to close out the set, collecting 16 kills along the way. The Lady Chaps hit .406 over the course of the set. The Lubbock Christian offense also got a boost from three aces in the set. Murray (6) and Lily Bickley (4) combined for 10 kills in the set.

SET 3 | Lubbock Christian then finished off the match with a victory in set number three. The Lady Chaps won the set 30-28 thanks to a strong showing on the attacking end. Lubbock Christian put together a .320 attack percentage with 22 kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands five times, the Lady Chaps took control for good at 29-28 and rode that advantage to victory. Cameron had two set-point serves before LCU claimed the set and match on their fourth set-point serve. Kayton Genenbacher had 18 assists in the set. Fallaha produced seven kills and Bickley added six in the frame.

What's Next

Time for the Lady Chaps to take a break. They do not return to the court until Wednesday, Nov. 8, as they will host Eastern New Mexico for Senior Night and their regular season home finale inside Rip Griffin Center (6 p.m.). The Lady Chaps have two regular season matches remaining.
