OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team opened Lone Star Conference play with a convincing 87-76 victory over Oklahoma Christian on the road Thursday night.
The Chaparrals (5-3, 1-0) had five players score in double figures, led by Tiras Morton, who had 23 points and eight rebounds. Ethan Duncan tacked on 19 points and Najeeb Muhammad helped out with 19 points, six assists and three steals.
The Lubbock Christian offense was very productive from deep, pouring in nine threes on 17 attempts. Duncan was the most prolific shooter for the Chaparrals, draining four treys in the contest.
How It Happened
After falling behind 9-4, Lubbock Christian went on an 11-0 run with 16:43 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Duncan, to take a 15-9 lead. The Chaparrals then added 33 points to that lead by the end of the period, and entered halftime with a 48-40 advantage. Lubbock Christian relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down seven shots to account for 21 of its 48 points.
Following intermission, Lubbock Christian kept widening that lead, expanding it to 73-60 before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 78-60 with 6:44 to go in the contest. The Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Chaparrals still cruised the rest of the way for the 87-76 win.
