Chaps Wrap Up CCA Tip-Off Classic With Game Against Northern Michigan

LUBBOCK, Texas – Riding an 89-71 opening night win over sixth ranked Lincoln Memorial, the Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team will faceoff with Northern Michigan Sunday night at the Rip Griffin Center with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.

QUICK HITS
  • Lubbock Christian and Northern Michigan meet for the first time ever on Sunday in Lubbock.
  • The Chaps will look to start the season 2-0 for the third time in five years.
  • LCU held Lincoln Memorial to .431 (25-58) shooting from the field, including .294 (5-17) from behind the arc in the season opener.
  • The Chaps were very efficient on the offensive end on Friday night, shooting 30-for-60 from the field and 15-for-36 from three.
  • Five different players scored in double figures for the Chaps in the win.
 
FLAME THROWER
Sophomore Kendall Dow came off the bench and scored a career high 21 points in the win against LMU. Dow went 5-for-9 from behind the arc and lead the Chaps in scoring for the first time in his career. He also grabbed three rebounds and dished out two assists in the win.
 
BIG TIME DEBUTS
Transfers Tiras Morton and Ethan Duncan made immediate impacts in their LCU debuts. To go along with his 15 points, Morton lead the team with eight rebounds and swatted away two Railsplitter shot attempts. Duncan added 16 points of his own, shooting 4-for-9 from three and contributing three assists as well.
 
ALL EYES ON NAJEEB
Las Vegas native Najeeb Muhammad was named a Lone Star Conference Preseason Player to Watch. Muhammad was very efficient against LMU, adding 19 points on 8-for-11 shooting. He also grabbed five boards and contributed two assists in the win.
 
WELCOME BACK, TY
On Friday night, Redshirt Senior Ty Caswell appeared in a game for the first time since Feb. 12, 2022. In his return from injury, Caswell led the Chaps in assists with five and added 10 points.
 
A LOOK AT NORTHERN MICHIGAN
  • The Wildcats finished 25-8 in 2022-23, falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament to McKendree.
  • The defending GLIAC champions received votes in the NABC Preseason Poll.
  • Northern Michigan is coming off a 108-101 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday (Nov. 4) in their season opener.
  • NMU had six players score in double figures in the loss, with Dylan Kuehl leading the way with 23 points.
  • The Wildcats shot 34-for-72 from the field and 13-for-40 from behind the arc against the Savage Storm.
  • Redshirt Junior Sam Schultz recorded a double-double in the season opener, scoring 15 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
  • Max Weisbrod lit it up from deep in the loss shooting 4-for-8 from behind the arc.
  • The Wildcats are coached by Matt Majkrzak who is in his fifth season at the helm.
A WIN WOULD
  • Give the Chaps a 2-0 record for the third time in five years. 
  • Be the 223rd win in the Coach Duncan era. 
  • Give LCU a 1-0 all-time record against Northern Michigan.
