LUBBOCK, Texas - Brevin McCool picked up seven total RBI as LCU scored 25 combined runs to sweep the Sunday doubleheader against UT Tyler on Feb. 19.
GAME ONE - Lubbock Christian 13, UT Tyler 5 - Seven Innings
The Chaparrals scored in every single inning on the way to a 13-5 win over UT Tyler.
With two outs in the top of the first inning, Austin Ochoa brought in the first run of the day for UT Tyler (8-3, 8-3 LSC) as his RBI single scored Carson Cox to give the Patriots a 1-0 lead. LCU (6-5, 6-5 LSC)Â answered in the bottom of the frame, as
Eduardo Acosta brought home Carson Ogilive with an RBI single of his own to tie it. Another RBI single from
Nate Van Maanen brought home Acosta and Lubbock Christian took a 2-1 lead.Â
The Chaps swelled the advantage in the bottom of the second, as a
Brevin McCool double brought home
Sam Shank and
Ryan Ball, and LCU went up 4-1. Cox answered the bell for the Patriots in the top of third, hitting a solo shot to cut the LCU lead in half to 4-2.
Jarred Gibson responded in the bottom of the third with his third home run of the season, hitting one over the left field wall to put LCU back up 5-2.Â
Acosta reached first on a dropped strikeout, and the ensuing error by the UT Tyler catcher allowed Ogilive and McCool to score, pushing the Chaps ahead 7-2.
Chris Shull left no doubt during the next at bat, cranking a two-run bomb over the left field wall and the Chaps lead increased to 9-2.
After a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth, Shank advanced all the way home on three wild pitches by the Patriots, scoring to give the Chaps a 10-2 advantage. Ogilvie got his first hit of the night with an RBI triple to score
Marcus Steen, before coming in to score on an RBI groundout by McCool, and LCU went ahead 12-2.Â
Dylan Blomquist came in to hit for the Patriots in the top of the sixth, and took advantage of his opportunity with a two-run homer to cut the deficit to 12-4. Nathan Carriere gave the Chaps a serious case of deja vu, as he pinch hit for UT Tyler and drilled a solo shot on the next at-bat, and the Pats cut the lead to 12-5.Â
Another McCool RBI single added some insurance for the Chaps in the bottom of the sixth, as
Hayden Blair scored to extend the lead to 13-5. Ochoa drew a leadoff walk for UT Tyler to start the top of the seventh, but back-to-back flyouts and a game-ending strikeout from
Logan Ellis ended the game as the Chaps knocked off UT Tyler 13-5.
The win stops a three-game losing streak for the Chaparrals and ended UT Tyler's eight-game winning streak. The win also ended a four-game losing streak to the Patriots, dating back to 2022.Â
McCool paced the Chaps on offense, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and a run scored. Ogilvie also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-2 with an RBI, scoring three runs and drawing three walks.Â
Cox led the Patriots offensively, going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Ochoa went 2-for-2 with an RBI and drew two walks.
Andrew Duran (2-0) earned his second straight win, going 5.2 innings, giving up five runs off eight hits, walking four and striking out five. Ellis closed the game for the Chaps, striking out two and walking a pair of batters in 1.1 innings of work.
Brayden Freeman (1-1) was handed the loss for UT Tyler, going three innings, giving up five runs off six hits and walking three batters.
GAME TWO - Lubbock Christian 12, UT Tyler 6 - Seven Innings
Extra base hits along with a big second inning allowed Lubbock Christian to pull away from UT Tyler, defeating the Patriots 12-6 on Sunday, Feb. 19.
After an error allowed
Carson Ogilvie to reach third base in the bottom of the first,
Brevin McCool brought him home with an RBI ground out and the Chaps (7-5, 7-5 LSC) took a 1-0 lead. Tommy van de Sanden answered for the Patriots (8-4, 8-4 LSC) in the top of the second, as his RBI double scored Austin Ochoa to tie the game at one. An RBI double from Lance Hutchinson brought home van de Sanden, and the Pats took a 2-1 lead.
The Chap offense made a statement in the bottom of the second inning, beginning with a two-RBI single from McCool that scored
Sam Shank and
Jesse Benavidez to give LCU the lead back, going up 3-2. Acosta widened the gap between the Pats and Chaparrals, knocking his first home run of the season over the left field wall, a two-run blast to go ahead 5-2.
Chris Shull and
Nate Van Maanen followed up with a pair of solo shots of their own in the next two at-bats, as LCU pulled ahead 7-2.Â
Lubbock Christian added to their lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, as a bases clearing, three-RBI double from Shank put the Chaps into double digits, going up 10-2. A Lance Hutchinson home run gave the Patriots a run back in the top of the fifth, cutting the deficit to 10-3.
Hutchinson hit his second home run of the day in the top of the sixth, this time a three-run blast to get UT Tyler back in the game, down just 10-6. With runners at first and second and two out, Acosta scooped up a ground ball at third and fired it to first end time to end the inning and keep the Chaps ahead.Â
Pinch hitting in the bottom of the sixth,

Jarred Gibson, pushing the Chap lead to 12-6. After Ethan Bedgood drew a leadoff walk, Acosta, Ogilvie and Van Maanen turned a double play to get two runners out, and a flyout to Shull ended the ballgame as LCU picked up the Sunday sweep over UT Tyler.Â
Acosta led the Chaps on offense, going 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs and a home run. McCool also had another good game at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.Â
Hutchinson paced the Patriots, going 3-for-3 with five RBI, two home runs and a run scored.Â
Ryan Markwardt (2-0) earned the win for the Chaps, going 5.1 innings, allowing six runs off 11 hits, walking two and striking out six.
Tyler Manyo earned the save (1) after throwing 1.2 innings of scoreless ball, allowing zero hits, walking two and striking out one.
Nolan Cox (2-1) was handed the loss, going three innings, giving up seven runs, five of those being earned, off eight hits, walking two and striking out six.
The Chaps will now make their longest road trip of the season, heading East to face Arkansas Fort Smith in a four game series. First pitch for game one on Friday, Feb. 24 is set for 1:00 PM
