Successful Spring Break Trip For Lady Chaps

Lady Chaps Went 3-1 On Trip, Including a Win Over No.39 Newman

LUBBOCK, Texas (March 15, 2023) - The Lubbock Christian University women's tennis team went 3-1 in their Spring Break trip of dual matches in Kansas and Missouri, which included a 4-3 win over No.39 Newman. LCU also defeated Emporia State (4-3) and William Jewell College (6-1) before falling 4-3 to Rockhurst to conclude the trip.

vs. No.39 NU
Playing their first true road dual of the season, LCU opened the dual playing from behind after Newman claimed the doubles point. Michele Trochez / Axelle Jacquemin was the lone LCU doubles team to claim a win.

LCU turned aside any dramatics despite opening singles play down 1-0, as the first four finishing singles matches were LCU victories for a 4-1 lead to clinch the dual. Newman won the No.6 and No.1 singles matches to put the final score at 4-3. LCU's Trochez (No. 2 singles), Jacquemin (No.3 singles), Oshini Herath (No.4 singles) and Maya Adler (No.5 singles) each won their singles matches, with Herath and Adler winning their matches in three sets.

vs. ESU
LCU moved east from Wichita, Kan. to Emporia, Kan., where they took the doubles point after Trochez / Jacquemin won their doubles match 6-4 (No.1 doubles) and Opolska / Khrustaleva  (No.2 doubles) won their match 7-6 with a 7-4 tie-breaker.

LCU fell behind in the dual 3-1 after ESU claimed the No.1, No.2 and No.3 singles matches. Herath won her No.4 singles match, but the pressure came down to the final two matches, which LCU had to win. Opolska (No.6 singles) did her part, winning 6-4, 6-3, which put more pressure on Maya Adler (No.5 singles). Adler dropped the first set on tiebreaker, but bounces back with a 6-4 set win and a 10-3 win in the final set to give LCU the 4-3 dual victory.

vs. WJC
LCU had no problems in their match in Liberty, Mo. against William Jewell College. LCU swept doubles play for the doubles point, as Trochez / Jacquemin (No.1 doubles), Herath / Opolska (No.2 doubles) and Taylor Nichols / Lauren Shinneman (No.3 doubles) claimed victories for the 1-0 dual lead.

LCU claimed victories in five of the six singles matches. Trochez (No.1 singles), Herath (No.3 singles), Adler (No.4 singles), Opolska (No.5 singles) and Nichols (No.6 singles) each won and won in straight sets.

The Lady Chaps surged to a 2-0 dual lead after Opolska cruised to a win in the No,5 singles match, but the Hawks responded winning the No.2, 3 and No.6 singles matches to take a 3-2 lead. LCU's No.1 singles individual, Trochez won the third set of her match 6-1 to win her match to tie the dual 3-3. The Hawks won the No.4 singles match in straight sets to win the dual 4-3.
