SAN ANGELO, Texas (March 24, 2023) - The Lubbock Christian University women's tennis team returned to Lone Star Conference play with their first-ever Lone Star Conference road dual, but were unable to make headlines against No.29 Angelo State, as they fell 6-1 at ASU Tennis Complex.
The Lady Chaps had one doubles win and it unfortunately came after the doubles point was decided. The LCU No.1 doubles team of
Michelle Trochez and
Axelle Jacquemin improved to 6-4 together and they claimed their first LSC doubles win (1-1) with a 7-6 victory (won tiebreaker 7-5).
There were no dramatics rolling into singles play. ASU claimed singles No.3, No.2 and No.1 to clinch the dual with a 4-0 lead. LCU avoided a shutout with Anastassia Opolska taking her set 7-5, 6-2 over Ayda Guler. Opolska improved to 5-2 on the season (all duals) in singles matches.
LCU's loss was their first ever to a nationally ranked foe (team) and places them 1-1 on the season against ranked opponents in duals. The Lady Chaps have a 9-6 record in duals and they fall to 0-2 in Lone Star Conference duals. They remain on the road Saturday, as they take on Texas A&M-Kingsville in Kingsville, Texas.
