RICHARDSON, Texas (March 16, 2023) – For the first time in program history, the Lone Star Conference has recognized a member of the Lubbock Christian University tennis program with a weekly accolade, as Martins Abamu was selected as the LSC's Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
 
Abamu, who is ranked No.20 nationally by the ITA, went 4-0 in his singles matches last week in duals play. LCU played their first four road dual matches (all non-conference) over the past week and Abamu played No.1 singles matches in all four matches. His last two singles matches of the trip featured wins over No.42 Ugnius Bickauskis of William Jewell College and No.68 Louis Keiner of Rockhurst to put him 2-0 on the week against nationally ranked opponents.
 
The matches were his first of the season against nationally ranked opponents (ranked at the time competition). Abamu was the ITA Division II South Central Region singles champion in the fall and competed in the ITA Cup against seeded opponents in October, who are now nationally ranked. Abamu, a senior from Lagos, Nigeria, is 16-5 overall this season in singles play and is 8-2 in duals singles. He is 7-0 playing in No.1 singles.
 
The Chaps have a 7-5 record in duals following the four-match road trip. LCU went 12-8 in singles matches on the trip. LCU returns home Mar. 28 to host Midwestern State.
