Lady Chaps Split Duals in Wichita Falls

LCU Played a Pair of Central Region Squads in Non-Conference Play

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 4, 2023) – The Lubbock Christian University women's tennis team split a pair of neutral site matches against programs from the Central Region, as LCU defeated Southwestern Oklahoma State 5-2 Friday and fell to Southwest Baptist (Mo.) 4-2.

vs. SOSU
Playing their first regular season spring schedule dual away from home, the Lady Chaparrals opened with a sweep of doubles play. Doubles teams Michelle Trochez / Jacquemin Axelle (No.1 doubles) and Annastasiia Khrustaleva / Anastasiia Opolska (No.2 doubles) each won handily to give LCU a 1-0 dual lead.

SOSU took the No.3 singles match for their first point, tying the dual 1-1, but Oshini Herath (No.4 singles) and Emily-Bo Meyer (No.5 singles) each won in straight sets to give LCU a 3-1 lead. Khrustaleva clinched the dual with a 6-2 tally in the third and decisive set to defeat Vanessa Nitu in No. 1 singles. Opolska also added a victory for LCU in No.6 singles to take the dual 5-2.

vs. SBU
LCU opened their dual against the Bearcats with a decisive victory in doubles for a 1-0 dual lead. Khrustaleva / Opolska (No.2 doubles) claimed a victory to put pressure on the No.3 doubles match, which LCU's team of Meyer / Herath claimed 6-4.

The Lady Chaps were unable to do anything with the momentum off the doubles point, as Trochez's 7-5, 6-2 win in No.2 singles was LCU's only win in singles competition. LCU dropped the dual 4-2.

Trochez's win placed her with a 7-6 overall record, but she is now 6-2 in duals single-match play. Opolska's singles match went unfinished, but she has won her last two singles matches, and she and Khrustaleva have won their last two doubles matches as teammates.

In Summary
The matches were each played at MSU Tennis Center. The Lady Chaps have a 6-4 record in duals record following the weekend split. They remain on the road and begin a trek through the Sunflower State Friday opening in Wichita, Kan. Against Newman.
