LUBBOCK, Texas (April 1, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University's women's tennis team garnered the program's first Lone Star Conference dual win at home, as they topped Western New Mexico 6-1 Saturday afternoon at Penny Gullo Tennis Center.
LCU's No.1 doubles team of
Michelle Trochez and
Axelle Jacquemin and No.2 team of
Anastasiia Khrustaleva and
Anastasiia Opolska each claimed a 6-2 set win in their matches to help LCU claim the doubles point for a 1-0 dual lead. "Team Anastasiia" improved to 6-3 on the season with their doubles win.
The Lady Chaps claimed the match early, as their first four completed singles matches were LCU victories for a 5-0 lead. Overall in singles, LCU's No. 1 (Trochez), No.2 (Jacquemin), No.4 (
Emily-Bo Meyer), No.5 (Opolska) and No.6 (
Maya Adler) and won their singles matches. Meyer, who rallied back from a 1-0 match deficit, was the only Lady Chaps singles win to go three sets, and her win was the clinching set for a 4-0 lead.
Trochez win was her third consecutive win. She improved her team-lead in win totals to 13-8 overall, 12-4 in duals and 4-1 in LSC duals. She is also 4-1 when playing in No.1 singles. Opolska moved to 8-3 in singles in duals and 3-1 in LSC duals play.
The win moved LCU to 11-7 overall and they are 2-3 in LSC play. They complete the week's play Sunday hosting UT Permian Basin at 1 p.m. at Penny Gullo Tennis Center on the LCU campus.
