SAN ANGELO, Texas (May 11, 2023) – Lubbock Christian University is officially in survive and advance mode in the Lone Star Conference Championship now after falling in their opener at the final site 11-3 to host Angelo State.
Â
The Chaps will need a quick turnaround if they want to keep playing in the league's postseason tournament, as they face UT Tyler at 10 a.m. on Friday at Foster Field.
Â
Right-hander
Andrew Duran started on the mound for the Chaps and pitched well to start. He gave up a run in the first, but settled in to hang zeros in the second and third frames. ASU added another tally in the fourth and two more in the fifth, but
Colton Brown came on in relief and limited the damage by stranding the bases full of Rams. Â
Â
Lubbock Christian got on the board in the top of the sixth with back-to-back home runs to start the frame from
Carson Ogilvie and
Brevin McCool, cutting the lead to just two runs.
Â
The Rams extend their lead once again in the seventh on a three-run home run from Justin Harris.
Â
McCool scored again in the eighth, reaching on an error before
Eduardo Acosta drove him in, but it would be the final run of the night for the Chaps.
Â
ASU answered with four in the bottom of the eighth and closed out the Chaps in the ninth with a pair of strikeouts and a groundout.
