Early Goal and Stellar Goalkeeping Give Chaps Win Over Nighthawks

LUBBOCK, Texas - The Lubbock Christian University men's soccer team secured a 1-0 victory over regionally ranked Northwest Nazarene Saturday night. The win improves the Chaps record to 4-0-1 and gives them the best start to a season since joining NCAA Division II in 2017.

Goalkeeper Tom Miles made eight saves en route to his first shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Chaps got on the board in the fourth minute when a Nako Amare shot went off the left post and Pablo Galietero Diez corralled the rebound and blasted a shot past the Nighthawk goalkeeper.
  • Both teams had several opportunities in the remainder of the first half, but neither could find the back of the net and the Chaps took their 1-0 lead in halftime.
  • In the 72nd minute the Nighthawks were awarded a penalty kick, but Tom Miles made a tremendous diving save to keep NNU off the scoreboard.
  • NNU threatened again in the 88th minute but  Miles and the Chap defense made timely stops and held the Nighthawks scoreless.
