PUEBLO, Colo. (September 17, 2023) – The Lubbock Christian University women's tennis program went 4-0 at the Pueblo Duals, hosted by Colorado State Pueblo, and are off to a dominating start to their 2023-24 duals schedule.
The Lady Chaps collected wins over Colorado College (6-1), CSU Pueblo (4-0), Colorado Mesa (6-1) and Metropolitan State of Denver (4-0), with a pair of shutouts in the mix. LCU combined on the weekend going 11-0 in doubles and 16-2 in singles play.
Anastasiia Opolska went 4-0 in singles and was one of four Lady Chaps to have multiple singles wins without a loss:
Maya Adler (3-0),
Andrea De Bernardo (3-0) and
Mariia Koroleva (2-0). Opolska also excelled in doubles, going 3-0 with doubles teammate
Axelle Jacquemin. They joined Lady Chaps doubles teams of De Bernardo /
Michelle Trochez (4-0),
Oshini Herath / Koroleva (2-0) and Koroleva /
Emily-Bo Meyer (2-0) with perfect marks in Pueblo. De Bernardo / Trochez are now 7-0 overall on the season (duals and tournament/open play).
Vs. Colorado College
LCU opened the Pueblo Duals facing Division III Colorado College. The Lady Chaps swept doubles play with De Bernardo / Trochez, Jacquemin / Opolska and Koroleva / Herath claiming wins for the 1-0 dual lead.
The dual was decided early, as the first five singles matches concluding were claimed by the Lady Chaps for a 6-0 lead. Koroleva (6-0, 6-1 in No.5-singles) and Opolska (6-1, 6-0 in No.6-singles) had the most convincing singles wins. De Bernardo (No.2-singles), Jacquemin (No.3-singles) and Adler (No.4-singles) all claimed wins for LCU.
Vs. CSU Pueblo
LCU was originally scheduled to play the ThunderWolves Friday morning, but with rain in the forecast and court availability late Thursday night, LCU followed their CC match by facing CSU Pueblo. Doubles teams of Jacquemin / Opolska, De Bernardo / Trochez and Meyer / Koroleva each claimed wins to sweep the doubles point, with Meyer / Koroleva winning their No.3-doubles match 6-0.
Opolska swept her No.5-singles match 6-0, 6-0 and Jacquemin followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win in No.2-singles for a 3-0 duals lead. De Bernardo, playing No.1-singles, had just completed her match win (6-2, 6-2) to clinch the dual (4-0) when Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex lights went out (due to lateness) and the remaining matches went unfinished and LCU claimed the shutout win.
Vs. Colorado Mesa
No matches were played Saturday (rain) and LCU's match with Colorado Mesa was moved to Saturday morning. LCU won the match 6-1.
LCU took the doubles point, as Jacquemin / Opolska, De Bernardo / Trochez and Meyer / Koroleva each won their doubles matches.
Koroleva (No.5-singles) opened singles by cruising to a 6-0, 6-1 win, and LCU extended the lead to 3-0 with a win in No.4-singles by Adler. No.2-singles winner, De Bernardo, clinched the dual for LCU. Opolska (No.6-singles) and Trochez (No.1-singles) also won their match for LCU, with Trochez storming back with a 7-5 win in the second set and clinching the match with a 11-9 tiebreaking win.
Vs. Metro State
LCU wrapped up with Metro State in a match the teams played to-clinch for travel purposes.
That included doubles play, as LCU took the first two finished matches (Herath / Koroleva and Trochez / De Bernardo) and the teams quickly advanced to singles play with LCU leading 1-0.
Jacquemin (6-1, 6-0 in No.3-singles) and Adler (6-1, 6-1 in No.4-singles) cruised in their singles matches for a 3-0 lead and Opolska served as the clincher with a No.5-singles win. The other three singles competitions went unfinished, as LCUwon 4-0.

The Lady Chaps have a 4-0 record to take into the spring portion of their schedule, as the remaining fall events are individual tournaments, including the ITA Women's Regional in Arlington, Texas, which gets underway Thursday at Arlington Tennis Center.
