PORTALES, N.M. (January 18, 2024) – Audrey Robertson and Reese Schumann each produced career-high 24-point performances, as Lubbock Christian University claimed their sixth consecutive victory with a 73-57 Lone Star Conference West Division road win over Eastern New Mexico Thursday night inside Greyhound Arena.
The Lady Chaps (13-3, 8-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Reese Schumann, who notched her first career double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Audrey Robertson added 24 points and Grace Foster added four points, six rebounds and five assists.
Schumann matched a career high with 10 rebounds, with six on the offensive end. The Lubbock Christian defense held Eastern New Mexico shooters to just 39.7 percent from the field, including 12.5 percent from three-point range (2/16). ENMU (5-10, 1-8) did receive 26 points from Ishuana Hunter and 11 from Deja Adrian.
How It Happened
After playing to a 5-5 tie early in the game, Lubbock Christian went on a 5-0 run with 5:47 left in the first quarter to take a 10-5 lead. The Lady Chaps then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 16-11 advantage behind seven points in the frame from Schumann. Lubbock Christian did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 16 points close to the basket.
Eastern New Mexico rallied to take a 22-21 lead before Lubbock Christian went on an 8-0 run starting at the 6:02 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Audrey Spurgin, to take a 29-22 lead. The Greyhounds cut into that lead, but the Lady Chaps still enjoyed a 36-34 advantage heading into halftime (after nine lead changes). Lubbock Christian was strong from deep in the quarter, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 20 points (Robertson was 3-of-3 from three-point range in the quarter). Robertson led LCU with 11 points in the quarter, which provided her with a team-leading 19 points at the break.
Following intermission, Lubbock Christian continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 49-45 before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Robertson, to expand its lead further to 55-45 with 1:58 to go in the third. The bucket by Robertson was part of her team-leading six points in the quarter. The Lady Chaps held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 57-47 edge. They shot 64.3% (9/14) from the field in the frame.
Lubbock Christian kept its lead intact before going on an 8-0 run to grow the lead to 71-53 with 3:02 to go in the contest. Lubbock Christian took advantage of its opportunities in the post in the final quarter, scoring 12 of its 16 points in the paint. Schumann was 4-of-4 from the field in the quarter and led LCU with 10 points in the quarter.

» Reese Schumann notched an impressive double-double for the Lady Chaps with 24 points and 10 rebounds. The points were a career high and the rebounds matched a career high. She notched her first career double-double. LCU has double-doubles by three different individuals this season and all three performances have come in the latest three games completed.
» The Lady Chaps made half of their attempts from three-point range, knocking down 6-of-12 shots. All six three-pointers made were in succession and followed their opening miss, as LCU was 6-of-7 from three-point range before missing their final five attempts.
» The Lady Chaps held the Greyhounds to only 39.7 percent shooting from the field, while shooting 49.2% (29/59). LCU moves to 10-2 when out-shooting their opponents. LCU was on pace to shoot at-least 50% from the field, but missed their final three attempts in the game.
» Lubbock Christian recorded 18 total assists in the game (only seven turnovers). Maci Maddox, who co-led LCU with five assists (with Grace Foster), had five assists and no turnovers. She has 23 assists and two turnovers in the last three games.
» Reese Schumann, Audrey Robertson, and Audrey Spurgin combined to account for 77 percent of the Lady Chaps points. Robertson posted a career high in points for a second consecutive game, as she had 21 points Saturday against Angelo State.
» Shaylee Stovall, who finished 2-of-4 from outside and with eight points, had her streak of consecutive made free-throws end at 25, as she missed an and-one attempt.
» LCU improved to 9-1 in games in which they led at the half and 11-0 in games in which they were led to start the fourth quarter.
» The win improved LCU to 6-1 on the road this season and they have won five consecutive road games (all LSC games).
» The Lady Chaps improved to 21-24 all-time against ENMU, as they have won 17 of the last 20 meetings, including six consecutive wins. They are 7-16 all-time against ENMU in Portales.
