Chaps Continue New Mexico Road Trip as they Take on Western New Mexico Saturday Afternoon

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team continues their New Mexico road trip as they travel to Silver City to battle Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon.

The Series
Saturday will be the 11th meeting all-time between the Chaps and Mustangs. LCU has a slight series edge, holding a 6-4 record over WNMU. The Mustangs swept the Chaps last season, pulling off 82-81 and 76-67 victories. LCU is 2-2 on the road at Drag's Court.

 About Western New Mexico
  • The Mustangs are in their 1st season with Head Coach Mark Bunker at the helm.
  • WNMU comes in Saturday with a 3-11 record and are 1-8 in Lone Star play.
  • The Mustangs are 0-5 in the LSC West Division.
  • Cortaviaus Seales is leading the way for WNMU, averaging 19 points and 2.9 rebounds a night.
  • WNMU scores 73.8 points per game while shooting 41.3 percent from the field and 32.4 percent from behind the arc.
Last Time Out – LCU
LCU dropped their second Lone Star Conference game of the season Thursday night, falling 80-72 to Eastern New Mexico. 

Najeeb Muhammad lead the Chaps with a career high 26 points going 9-of-14 from the field. Tiras Morton helped out with his eighth double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Gonzales also chipped in with 12 points.

The Chaps shot 24-of-69 (34.8 percent) from the field and 7-of-25 (28 percent) from three in the loss. The LCU defense held the high powered ENMU offense to 42.9 percent shooting. 

Last Time Out – WNMU
The Mustangs fell 103-73 to the 2nd ranked team in the nation, West Texas A&M Thursday night. The Buffs handed the Mustangs their 5th straight loss.
 
Four Mustangs managed double-digits on the Buffs in the 73-point effort. James McCallum lead the way with a career-high 14 points on a perfect 5-5 from the field. Prosper Obidiebube added 13 points. LaMarqus Merchant Jr. scored 12 and Cortaviaus Seales contributed 11.
 
Rebounding and points in the paint helped the Buffs defeat the Mustangs. WNMU lost the battle of the boards 38-23, leading to 18 second chance points for the Buffs. The Mustangs would be outscored in the paint 52-34.

A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 13-5 overall record and 8-2 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Give LCU a 4-2 LSC West Division record.
  • Be the 234th win of the Coach Duncan era.
