Chaps Battle Aggies in West Division Opener on the Road Thursday

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Lubbock Christian University men's basketball team heads to Lawton, Okla. for a Lone Star Conference matchup with Cameron on Thursday night. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside Aggie Gym.
 
The Series
Thursday will be the 12th meeting all-time between the Chaps and Aggies. LCU won both games last season and has won four of the last five. The Chaps have struggled on the road against the Aggies, holding a 2-3 record inside Aggie Gym.
 
About Cameron
  • The Aggies are in their 2nd season with Head Coach Kevin O'Connor at the helm.
  • Cameron comes into Thursday's game with an 8-3 record and are 4-1 in Lone Star play.
  • The Aggies opened LSC West Division play with an 88-87 victory over Midwestern State (Dec. 18).
  • Jaylan Thomas is leading the way for the Aggies, averaging 19 points and 9 rebounds per game.
  • Cameron is averaging 83.5 points per game while shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from behind the arc.
 
Last Time Out – LCU
LCU scored a season-high 105 points in a dominate win over Oklahoma City on New Year's Eve, fueled by a career day from sophomore Kendall Dow.

Dow broke two personal records in the victory over OCU. Dow broke his career high of 21 points from earlier this season with a 30-point night and surpassed his career high in made threes with six. Dow also dished out two assists and collected two steals. 

Three other Chaps scored in double figures in the win. Ethan Duncan tied his season high with 20 points and added two rebounds and three assists. Duncan was also a force on the defensive end, contributing two steals and a block. Tiras Morton recorded his fifth double-double of the season putting up 18 points and grabbing 12 boards. Morton also had three steals and two blocks. Ty Caswell scored a season high 17 points on 8-of-12 shooting. 
 
Last Time Out – Cameron
In a game that saw 14 lead changes and seven ties the Aggies pulled out an 88-87 victory over their rival Midwestern State on Dec. 18. Jaylan Thomas led Cameron with 24 points, including 4 made threes in the win. Lavell Brodnex also recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 boards for the Aggies.
 
After taking a one-point lead into the locker room, Midwestern State came out strong to start the second half and jumped out to a 13-point advantage. The Aggies clawed their way back, tying the game at 77 after a Thomas three-pointer. Cameron took a four-point lead after a Thomas made layup and two free throws by Brodnex. A three-pointer with 36 seconds left would bring the Mustangs within one before the Aggies were able to run down the clock and secure the one-point victory.
 
A Win Would
  • Give the Chaps a 10-3 overall record and 5-0 in the Lone Star Conference.
  • Give LCU a 1-0 LSC West Division record.
  • Be the 231st win of the Coach Duncan era.
  • Extend the Chap's win streak to seven games.
