LAWTON, Okla. (January 4, 2024) - The Lubbock Christian Lady Chaparrals team went into the half tied with Cameron 29-29, but took control in the second half with a 17-0 run to defeat the Cameron 63-48 in their West Division opener Thursday in Lone Star Conference play inside Aggie Gym.
The Lady Chaps (9-3, 4-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Grace Foster, who had 18 points and nine rebounds. Maci Maddox tacked on 13 points and five assists and Audrey Robertson helped out with 10 points.
The Lubbock Christian offense was very productive from downtown, making nine threes on 26 attempts. Maddox was the most prolific shooter for the Lady Chaps, draining three treys in the contest.
Lubbock Christian's defense held Cameron to only 18.2 percent shooting from beyond the arc. The Aggies did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with five offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points while Lubbock Christian cleared 20 defensive rebounds.
Cameron (3-9, 1-5) had a combined 32 points from Shamica Smith (17 points) andKorie Allensworth (15 points).
How It Happened
After playing to a 2-2 tie early in the game, Lubbock Christian went on a 10-0 run with 7:27 left in the first quarter to take a 12-2 lead. They had three consecutive three-point attempts made to highlight the run. The Lady Chaps then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with an 18-12 advantage behind six points from Robertson.
Cameron rallied to take a 27-24 lead before Lubbock Christian went on a 5-0 run starting at the 2:55 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Foster, to take a 29-27 lead. The Aggies battled back to even it up at 29-29 heading into halftime. Lubbock Christian dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 11 points close to the basket. Foster led LCU in the second quarter with four points and joined Robertson and Maddox to co-lead LCU with eight points each in the half.
After intermission, Cameron snatched a 35-34 lead before Lubbock Christian answered back by going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Reese Schumann, to grab a 41-35 lead with 6:23 to go in the third. The Lady Chaps entered the fourth quarter with a 46-43 edge (Shaylee Stovall led LCU with five points in the quarter). Lubbock Christian knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 17 total points from long range.
Lubbock Christian started tacking on points in the fourth immediately, going on a 15-0 run (part of an eventual 17-0 run), finished off by Robertson's jumper, to grow the lead to 61-43 with 4:53 to go in the contest. The Aggies narrowed the margin before the game was over, but the Lady Chaps still cruised the rest of the way for the 63-48 win. Lubbock Christian took advantage of four Cameron turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of the takeaways to complete the game with a 23-9 advantage in points-off-turnovers.

» Lubbock Christian lit it up from beyond the arc, knocking down a season-high nine treys in the game. Maci Maddox connected on a game-high three three-pointers and was one of four Lady Chaps to dial in from outside.
» Lubbock Christian had a stellar day defensively, holding Cameron to 18 percent from beyond the arc on 11 attempts. LCU has held opponents to under 23.5% shooting from outside in four consecutive games.
