LUBBOCK, Texas (October 12, 2024) – Lubbock Christian University and UT Tyler exchanged goals and finished in a 2-2 draw during their Lone Star Conference matchup Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
With the result, the Chaparrals move to 4-3-4 overall and 1-1-2 in the Lone Star Conference. UT Tyler moved to 2-4-4 overall and 0-1-3 in conference play.
How it Happened
Lubbock Christian took an early 1-0 lead in the ninth minute when Andrea Monticelli netted his first goal of the season, heading in a corner kick from Justin Martinez. The Patriots equalized in the 38th minute with a goal from Luan Rangel, assisted by Oscar Sosa. Lubbock Christian responded quickly, breaking the 1-1 tie in the 42nd minute with a header from Hugo Staunton, following Aron DePaula's corner kick into the box. However, the Patriots fought back once again, leveling the match at 2-2 with a 53rd-minute goal by Danny Demarias, assisted by Julian Smith. The score held, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

- Connor Pettigrew recorded five saves for the Chaparrals out of 10 total Patriots shots, bringing his season total to 48 and ranking sixth in conference. His record moved to 4-3-4 on the season.
- Lubbock Christian had five shots on goal, resulting in two Chaparral goals.
- Two Chaparrals gained their first goal of the season, Monticelli and Staunton, bringing the number of unique goal scorers on the team to eight. Lubbock Christian will remain at home and welcome Sul Ross State to the LCU Soccer and Track Complex on Oct. 16, which will be their first ever Lone Star Conference meeting. The Lobos are coming off a massive 2-0 upset win against West Texas A&M, their first Lone Star win in program history. They will enter Wednesday's match with a 5-5 overall record and 1-2 in conference action. The Chaparrals and the Lobos will have first touch at approximately 7:00 p.m. from Lubbock.
