Chaps Down the Eagles in Oklahoma City

LCU Notches Second Consecutive Road LSC Win

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (October 19, 2024) – Justin Martinez's two early goals propelled Lubbock Christian to a 2-0 shutout victory over Oklahoma Christian at Eagle Soccer Field on Saturday. Martinez recorded his second multi-goal game of the season, both of which have come on the road, helping the Chaparrals secure their second consecutive Lone Star Conference road win.

Lubbock Christian improved to 5-4-4 overall and 2-2-2 in Lone Star play after the victory. Furthermore, the Chaparrals moved to 3-2-1 on the road, continuing their strong play outside of Lubbock. The Chaparrals now occupy the sixth place slot in the conference standings. Oklahoma Christian dropped to 5-5-3 overall and 2-3-1 in conference action, slotting seventh in the Lone Star standings.
 
How it Happened
Lubbock Christian opened the scoring when Martinez scored his fifth goal of the season in the fifth minute. Alejo Garcia was credited the assist on the goal.
The Chaparrals extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal from Martinez in the 11th minute. The goal capped off scoring for the match, as Lubbock Christian won 2-0.
 
Game Notes

  • Justin Martinez scored a pair of goals, extending his team lead to five. It was his second multi-goal game of the season, as he notched a pair on Oct. 9 at Texas A&M International. All five of his goals this season have been notched in road contests.
  • Connor Pettigrew collected three saves for the Chaparrals out of 13 total Eagles shots, increasing his Lone Star leading total number to 52. He is 5-4-4 this season, with all goalkeeper decisions on the season.
  • Lubbock Christian recorded six shots on goal for a second consecutive match and they have a shot-on-goal percentage over .500 for a fifth consecutive match.
  • Lubbock Christian extends their all-time series advantage to 11-4-4 and they are unbeaten (1-0-2) in their last three meetings against the Eagles.
  • The Chaparrals improve to 3-2-1 on the road this season.

 
What's Next?
Lubbock Christian will return to Lubbock for a match against rival West Texas A&M on Wednesday Oct. 23. This match will renew the annual Rivalry on the Range and will be Staff Appreciation Night for LCU. The Buffaloes enter the match with a 2-6-4 overall record and 0-2-3 in Lone Star action. In their last match, West Texas A&M fell 2-1 to Dallas Baptist in Dallas. The Chaparrals and the Buffaloes will face off at approximately 7:30 p.m. from the LCU Soccer and Track Complex.
